Martirosian Cracks Aces

Level 39 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 0 ante
Artur Martirosian
Artur Martirosian

Patrick Kennedy raised to 20,000, and Artur Martirosian defended the big blind.

The flop came out J3K, Martirosian checked over to Kennedy who fired out a continuation bet of 14,000. Martirosian decided to make the call and see a turn.

On the turn was the K, which both players choose to check, and see a river.

The 8 on the river completed the board, and Martirosian bet 78,000, which was snapped off by Kennedy, who then flipped over AxAx. However, he was given the bad news when Martirosian tabled K9 for trip Kings, and Martirosian scoops another sizable pot to extend his lead.

Curse of the Commentator: Messere on Fumes

Level 39 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 0 ante
Owen Messere
Owen Messere

After just waxing lyrical about Owen Messere, the old curse of the commentator struck as Faraz Jaka reduced the Brit to fumes in a massive pot.

Action was caught on the river, with around 720,000 in the pot on the 573J5 board. Messere, the bigger stack, jammed. Jaka, who had 736,000 behind, quickly counted his chips and wasted little time in calling.

Messere audibly exhaled as he tabled 42, which missed its huge combo draw. Jaka tabled K7 to take in the likely match-deciding pot.

PokerNews will get the full action of the hand and will report back to fill in the gaps.

Messere was visibly shaken, with his hand trembling as he stacked up his remaining chips.

UPDATE @ 19:02: Jaka recapped the hand to PokerNews after his victory.

jaka opened to 25,000 from the button and saw Messere call.

Messere check-raised to 80,000 over a bet of 25,000 on the 573 flop. Jaka called.

Messere overbet to 240,000 on the J turn and was called once more.

Messere jammed on the 5 river. Jaka made a quick call for his stack of 736,000.

Jaka's K7 bested Messere's 42.

Patrick Kennedy limped on the button and Artur Martirosian checked his option.

Martirosian then proceeded to check-call bets from Kennedy on every street. First for 10,000 on the 8J10 flop, then for 40,000 on the 4 turn, and finally for his remaining stack for a bit over 100,000 on the 8 river.

Kennedy could only show 95 for a whiffed straight draw and Martirosian turned over J10 for two pair to earn his spot in the semifinals tomorrow.

Marko Grujic opened to 25,000 and called when Nikolai Mamut made it 100,000 from the big blind.

Mamut continued for 50,000 on the K1010 flop and was called. Mamut then check-called for 175,000 on the 4 turn. Mamut checked once more and then snap-called when Grujic sized up to 475,000 on K river.

Grujic tabled K10, which flopped tens full but ended up being kings full of tens. Mamut had KxJx for the same full house and they chopped the pot.

As that hand took place, around 50,000 was in the middle on the 986KJ board in the duel between Owen Messere and Faraz Jaka.

Messere jammed for 247,000 from the big blind, which folded out Jaka after the latter used up two-time banks.

Faraz Jaka: J10

Messere didn't have much to sweat on the A45 flop. The turn and river offered a clean run out with the 6 and 6, respectively and Messere doubled up.

"This is cruel," mentioned Messere.

"What is?" asked Jaka.

"Being given hope," replied Messere.
