According to the players, the under-the-gun player raised preflop and Thi Ngo called in the hijack. When it folded to Kenneth Po in the big blind, he three-bet to 17,000. Under the gun folded and Ngo called.
On the 2♥Q♠3♦ flop, Po went all in for 37,500. Ngo called.
Kenneth Po: A♥A♦9♥2♣
Thi Ngo: K♠9♠6♥Qx
The turn J♣ gave Ngo additional outs for a gutshot, but the river 5♥ sent the pot to Po.
Gabriel Schroeder rasied to 3,000 from the button and Shannon Shorr, in the big blind, defended.
The 8♠7♥A♥ flop saw Shorr play in flow. Schroeder placed a continuation bet of 4,500. Shorr thought before quickly concluding on a fold, leaving a small dent in his fresh starting stack.
The cutoff raised to 3,500, Felipe Ramos called on the button, as did the small blind. The big blind squeezed to 18,000, leaving themselves just a few chips behind the line. The cutoff folded, Ramos called off the bet for his last 12,000 and the small blind also came along.
The K♠9♠2♣ flop saw the small blind check and then call an all-in jam from the big blind for their remaining stack.
Felipe Ramos: A♠10♥9♥6♠
Big Blind: K♦J♦3♦3♣
Small Blind: A♥5♠4♥4♠
The 10♣ turn and 6♦ river saw Ramos' two pair triple him up. The big blind won the smaller side pot to stay alive.
In 2003, the game of poker changed forever after Chris Moneymaker topped a field of 839 players to win the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event for $2.5 million. By doing so, the Moneymaker effect ignited the “Poker Boom,” which saw the tournament field triple the following year.
The 2004 Main Event was the last to be held at the birthplace of the WSOP – Binion’s Horseshoe in downtown Las Vegas. The venue was packed to the rafters with 2,576 players entering that year’s tournament, and with the ESPN cameras capturing all the action several poker players made a name for themselves that year including young guns David Williams and Josh Arieh, while 1995 WSOP Main Event champ Dan Harrington made history by following up his third-place finish in the 2003 WSOP Main Event by placing fourth in 2004 for $1.5 million.
However, when the dust settled it was a patent attorney from Connecticut by the name of Greg Raymer winning the whole thing for a smooth $5 million and a gold bracelet. While attempting to defend his title in 2005, which doubled from the year prior by attracting 5,619 players, Raymer proved his win was no fluke by making another deep run, ultimately falling in 25th place for $304,680.
It’s been 20 years since Raymer’s victory, but he hasn’t slowed down as he’s continued to play poker all across the globe. In recognition of Raymer’s anniversary, PokerNews caught up with the champ, who will be at the 2024 WSOP!
Under the gun opened the action and got a call from Anatoliy Zlotnikov in the cutoff. Jorge De Oliveira on the button three-bet to 13,800, which David Williams, who started the hand with a stack of well over 150,000 chips, cold-called in the big blind. Under the gun also called, as did Zlotnikov.
The flop was 9♣7♦2♦. Williams was first to act and bet 40,000 and under the gun folded. Zlotnikov raised pot and De Oliveira folded. Williams and Zlotnikov then quickly pushed the rest of their chips in the middle to ensure an all-in and Williams was the one at risk.
David Williams: K♦K♠5♦4♣
Anatoliy Zlotnikov: 10♦9♥8♦6♠
Williams had the overpair of kings and the king-high flush draw, while Zlotnikov flopped a pair of nines, a lower flush draw and the wrap.
The turn was the 5♠, bringing in one of Zlotnikov‘s straight outs.
Williams was still drawing to the flush, but the river was a brick 2♣ and Zlotnikov took down a massive pot, while Williams was eliminated.
