Canada's Ernest Chevrette Leads After Day 1

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Ernest Chevrette

Day 1 of Event #17: $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em attracted 1,692 entries at the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) and played out at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

A prize pool of $3,011,760 was generated. The remaining 264 players are returning on June 4 to battle through the bubble, which will burst at 254 players. The min-cash is worth $4,011, but it's the top prize of $436,044 and the cherished gold bracelet on which everyone has their eyes firmly locked. The bubble will burst soon after the restart, as only 10 players remain until they reach the money.

Play ended in the last ten minutes of Level 15 with Canadian Ernest Chevrette bagging one of the top stacks after he amassed 728,000 chips throughout the day. This would be a life-changing score for Chevrette.

Following close behind Chevrette are Austria's Lukas Hafner and Jesse Lonis, a 25K draft pick, who is fresh off a Titan High Roller Event win and ready to battle.

Day 2 kicks off Wednesday, June 4, at noon local time at the Horseshoe Event Center (Bronze and Gold sections). Players will compete through ten 60-minute levels, with blinds resuming at Level 15, 3,000/5,000 with a 5,000 big blind ante and 10 minutes remaining in the level. There will be 15-minute breaks every two levels and a dinner break is scheduled at the end of Level 21, around 6:30 p.m.

Jesse Lonis raised to 9,000 from middle position, prompting a reraise from Joost Schippers in late position. Lonis then raised enough to put Schippers all in, and Schippers quickly made the call. Both players held hands well suited for large pots, and this hand was no exception.

Kristen Foxen, "Focus on the Process"

Level 11 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Kristen Foxen
Kristen Foxen

Canadian Kristen Foxen is back on the felt and ready for another deep run at the World Series of Poker. Her approach to the game is as grounded as it is strategic—she emphasizes focusing on the process rather than the outcome, a mindset she supports through visualization, positivity, and a balanced perspective on both poker and life.

When she’s not at the tables, Foxen enjoys the local Las Vegas food scene, with Café Breizh in Summerlin topping her list of favorite spots. As for tournaments, outside of the iconic Main Event, she especially looks forward to the $10,000 6-Max No-Limit Hold’em Championship and the $25,000 High Roller 6-Handed No-Limit Hold’em events that suit her aggressive, high-level style of play.

If she weren’t competing at the highest levels of poker, Foxen says she’d pursue a career as a nutritionist or personal trainer—unsurprising given her focus on health and mental performance.

A fierce competitor, Kristen Foxen continues to be an inspiration to women in poker around the world, both for her results and her unshakable presence at the table.

Jesse Lonis

Jesse Lonis was spotted in the field for Event #17, sitting on a healthy 80,000-chip stack. He was also seen competing in WSOP Online Bracelet Event #4. Ren Lin

Five players saw a 5Q9 flop, and action checked around to Ren Lin, who bet 3,000. Michele Lawson called from the big blind, and Oliver Heidel called from the cutoff. The turn was the A. Lawson checked, and Heidel then went all in for 26,400. Lin entertained the table with some friendly banter before closing his eyes and making the call. Lawson folded, and the hands were tabled.

Ren Lin: Q9 All in
Oliver Heidel: K10

The dealer placed the Q on the river giving Lin three queens and the winning hand.
