$10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship Starts at 2 p.m.
Welcome back to PokerNews, the official media partner of the 2025 World Series of Poker and home of live updates from all bracelet events.
Stud specialists are set to descend on the Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas today and compete in Event #25: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship. This three-day tournament should attract a field that reads like a who's who of the poker world.
Day 1 kicks off at 2 p.m. local time. Players start their quest for WSOP gold with 60,000 chips, with the initial goal to survive 10 levels and reach Day 2. Levels 1-6 last 40 minutes, Levels 7-15 last 60 minutes, and Levels 16 until the crowning of the champion are 90 minutes.
The plan for Day 1 is to play 10 levels with a 15-minute break after every two hours of play. Late registration remains open for 11 levels, or around 2:15 p.m. on Day 2, allowing players to turn up fashionably late.
Day 2 starts at 1 p.m. on June 7. Eight levels are scheduled, with 15-minute breaks after Levels 11, 13, 16, and 17. A 60-minute dinner break takes place after Level 15 (~6:30 p.m.). The third and final day is June 8; its start time has yet to be confirmed.
Australia's James Obst is this event's reigning champion. Obst navigated through 106 opponents in 2024, capturing his second WSOP bracelet and $260,658 in prize money. Obst emerged victorious after a lengthy heads-up battle with Paul Volpe.
“A little bit overwhelming. Very strung out. It’s been a long couple of days,” Obst said following his victory. “I can’t really believe it, just thinking about the week that I’ve had. To be here with a bracelet is surreal. It’s unreal.”
