As the field went for some respite, Ben Tollerene and Joey Weissman were playing a massive pot that went deep into the break.
Andrew Lichtenberger opened to 60,000 from under the gun before Ben Tollerene three-bet to 135,000 from the cutoff. Joey Weissman reraised to 340,000 from the small blind, which pushed out Lichtenberger. The action wasn't over, however, as Tollerene called.
Weissman continued for 160,000 on the K♥9♣4♠ flop and Tollerene called. Weissman fired out another 500,000 on the A♠ turn, and again Tollerene called.
Weissman, who had 1,150,000 behind, announced a bet of 1,145,000 on the 3♠ river. Tollerene quickly moved all in as the bigger stack and Weissman snap-called.
Tollerene tabled A♥A♦ for a set of aces.
Weissman was in disbelief as he tabled K♠K♦. His flopped set was no good and Tollerene took in the biggest pot of the tournament so far.
Alex Foxen raised to 65,000 in the cutoff and Chino Rheem defended from the big blind. The flop came J♣4♠2♥ and Rheem checked to Foxen who bet 40,000. Rheem check-raised to 140,000 and Foxen called.
The turn brought the Q♥ and Rheem led out with a bet of 200,000. Foxen dispatched his cards and Rheem threw his 4x4x high enough in the air for the table to see.
Aleksejs Ponakovs was put to the test in the big blind in a heads-up pot against Pavel Plesuv in the cutoff.
With over 700,000 already in the middle on a board of 5♦Q♥10♦3♠9♠, Plesuv moved all in and Ponakovs used six time banks as he considered calling off with his remaining stack of around 500,000. After three minutes, Ponakovs called.
Plesuv showed Q♦9♦ for two pair as Ponakovs was forced to show K♠10♣ before hitting the rail.
Aleksejs Ponakovs opened to 60,000 from the hijack before Alexandre Reard three-bet to 200,000 from the cutoff. Shannon Shorr was on the button and jammed for 595,000. Ponakovs got out of the way ahead of Reard snap-calling.
Shannon Shorr: A♠Q♣
Alexandre Reard: A♦K♣
Shorr made queens and jacks on the Q♦J♦J♣ flop to reverse his domination. Reard whiffed the 8♥ turn and 8♠ river to double up January's GPI Player of the Month.
On the next deal, Shorr opened to 60,000. Mustapha Kanit put in his last 25,000 on his immediate left and then the blinds got out of the way.
Mustapha Kanit: A♥7♥
Shannon Shorr: Q♦9♣
Kanit made the nut flush on the J♥6♥3♥ flop to lock up the pot and boost his stack over 100,000 chips.
