Phil Ivey Records First Cash at 2025 WSOP, and He's Big-Stacked in $100K High Roller

Phil Ivey's slow start to the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) appears to have ended.

The 11-time bracelet winner not only recorded his first cash of the summer. He's among the big stacks in Event #38: $100,000 High Roller with 15 players remaining. Thomas Boivin and Ben Heath are also at the top of the leaderboard, all battling to win the gold bracelet and the $2,649,158 first-place prize.

Deeb Adds to His Stack

Sam Soverel limped the button before Shaun Deeb raised to 400,000 from the small blind. After the big blind folded, Soverel made the call.

The flop came down 74A and Deeb led out for 1,000,000. Soverel didn't take long to fold his cards, and forfeit the pot to Deeb.

Furth Takes the First Hand Post-Dinner

Christopher Vitch opened the cutoff to 250,000 and Bruno Furth called from the big blind.

On the 754 flop, Furth checked to Vitch who bet 175,000. Furth took some time before he cut out a check-raise to 650,000, and Vitch quickly returned his cards to the dealer as Furth moves into second in chips.

Sternheimer Wins Before the Dinner Break

Bruno Furth raised to 200,000 under the gun and only Philip Sternheimer called from the big blind.

Sternheimer check-called a bet of 175,000 from Furth on the J64 flop.

The 8 hit the turn and Sternheimer check-called another bet from Furth, this time for 550,000.

Both players checked the 3 river and Sternheimer took down the pot with 7532, which was a straight with an eight-five low.

Soverel Wakes Up With a "Nothing Burger" Against Furth

Bruno Furth raised to 200,000 on the button and Sam Soverel called in the small blind.

Soverel led out for 250,000 on the 1042 flop and Furth called. Both players then checked the J turn.

The river was the 5 and Soverel bet 750,000. Furth quickly folded.

"Felt like a bluff. Yeah, he has nothing," Shaun Deeb said as Soverel turned over AQ64.

"The nothing burger," Philip Sternheimer added.

Dennis Weiss potted to 280,000 from middle position, Philip Sternheimer clicked it to 480,000 from the button, and Weiss called all-in for 385,000.

The 965 flop gave Sternheimer two pair. Weiss was drawing dead on the 2 turn as he had no low potential. The 9 river was just a formality as Weiss was the second to fall from the final table.

Edengren Fires the Turn

Shaun Deeb made it 160,000 from early position with Magnus Edengren calling on the button, and Bruno Furth defending his big blind.

Everyone checked the 2108 flop to see the A appear on the turn. Furth and Deeb checked, but Edengren bet 500,000. This got two folds from his opponents and Edengren won the pot.
