Peters Sets the Trap, Kornuth Gets Out of It

Level 3 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

It appeared to be a four-bet pot shaping up between David Peters and Chance Kornuth with nearly 300,000 in the middle going to the flop of K103. Peters led out with a bet of 90,000 from the big blind and Kornuth called from the cutoff.

The turn was the 5 which slowed the action as both players checked to the K on the river. Peters checked again but Kornuth wisely checked it back. Peters flipped over 1010 for a full house and Kornuth relinquished his cards.

Cigarettes? Vapes?

Level 3 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Christoph Vogelsang opened to 19,000 from under the gun and was called by Adrian Mateos in the hijack and Alfred Decarolis in the big blind. The flop came AQ10 and the action checked to Mateos who bet 17,000. Both Decarolis and Vogelsang called to see the 9 on the turn.

It checked to Mateos again who sized up a bet of 90,000 this time. Decarolis still called and Vogelsang stepped aside. The A paired the board on the river and Decarolis checked for the third time. Mateos tossed in a bet of 215,000 and Decarolis quickly folded.

"Cigarettes? Vapes?" echoed behind the players as a showgirl walked past the tables. Unsurprisingly, no purchases were made at this time.

Oganyan on the Birth of Taxation

Level 2 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Aram Oganyan
Aram Oganyan

Leon Sturm and Brandon Steven played a pot at Table 71 as Aram Oganyan keynoted an interesting conversation about taxation, world history and simulation.

Sturm opened to 17,000 on the button and Steven and Kulev called as Oganyan, who recently finished second in the $100,000 High Roller for $1,766,099, complained about taxes, arguing that human societies thrived for hundreds of years before the invention of taxes. Nick Petrangelo corrected him on his history: "You think they invented taxes in 1971?"

"So the Egyptians paid taxes?" Oganyan asked.

"Yes," said Jonathan Jaffee.

"I have no idea," shrugged Oganyan. "I just thought it was a simulation. I don't think any of that stuff even happened."

"I don't like this conversation," said Alex Kulev. "I'll sit this one out."

As the conspiracy-ridden discussion played out, Steven and Sturm checked down the board of 9792 before Steven bet 77,000 on the 8 river to take the pot.
