WSOP Cash King Checks In

It's bad news for the field on Day 1 of today's $1,500 Freezeout, because Roland Israelashvili has checked in, and that usually means one of the cashes is locked up.

The American pro, who finally ended his bracelet hoodoo in October last year in the 2024 WSOP Online $400 ‘PLOSSUS, is second on the list of all-time WSOP cashes with well over 250 recorded scores in WSOP events.

With a further three finishes in the money already to his name this summer, could we see another deep run in this event?

The growth of the game can be attributed to everything from home games, social media content, to boisterous personalities on the felt.

Many poker players develop their followings by making YouTube videos, appearing on live streams, hosting podcasts, or even appearing on game shows.

In a world where information travels quickly and is readily available — there are plenty of international stars to look out for on the felt here at the 2025 World Series of Poker.

Andy Tsai AKA Andy Stacks is known for playing some of the highest stakes cash games on stream but he can be seen chasing the dream of winning a bracelet here at the WSOP.

Olga Iermolcheva competed on the very popular poker series "Game of Gold" and received compliments from fellow professionals for her aggressive instincts.

Polarizing figure and YouTube personality, Ryan DePaul, was seen on the felt somewhat clean-shaven and fresh off his most recent "Degen Debrief".

Long standing French pro, Davidi Kitai, was seen late registering this event. He has appeared in several episodes of "Inside the Mind of a Pro" where you can hear the internal narrative of the featured competitor.

Jonathan Little is a long-standing poker coach who offers content for all levels of skill in the game from beginner to advanced.

The Champ is in the House

Jonathan Tamayo
Jonathan Tamayo

The reigning WSOP Main Event Champion, Jonathan Tamayo, is here and looking to build a stack as we move through Level 5.

Tamayo, who has enjoyed more modest success so far at the 2025 WSOP with three minor cashes, will be looking to build some momentum ahead of poker's world championship, which gets underway in just over 2 weeks.

Plenty of poker still to be played before then, though, and the man from Humble, Texas, will be hoping for success in what is the fifth edition of this event.

Bodes Well For the Button

Level 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

Rene Cifuentes raised to 1,000 preflop. Matt Bode called on the button and Maryia Lozhkina defended her big blind.

Three ways to a flop of 1066 saw all three players check through.

The turn peeled off the K and with two checks in front, Bode bet 1,200 and took down the pot.

Online bracelet winner Shawn Buchanan is in the building. With over $7m in live earnings to his name, the Canadian will be hoping for another deep run in this event, just days after final-tabling Event #31: $800 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack, finishing 4th for $128,100.

Buchanan, whose bracelet win came in the $800 WSOP.com ONLINE No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed in 2019, is no stranger to an impressive Vegas summer, having made a strong bid for the 2011 World Series of Poker Player of the Year fourteen years ago.

A Frustrating Misunderstanding

Level 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

Just Before the Break:

Heads up to a river of J104J8 saw Justin Green crane across the dealer, lifting his hands, and asking "Can I have a peek?".

The dealer misunderstood what Green had said and he said, "Check.". Matias Gabrenja then asked the dealer, "Did he check?" and the dealer affirmed he had. Gabrenja tabled a pair of nines in the hole but the interaction had happened so quickly Green hadn't had the time to object. All Green had done was request to look at Gabrenja's stack.

At this point, the floor was called and the first floor's ruling was that Green would still have the option to act, despite Gabrenja prematurely tabling his hand. Gabrenja asked the floor to call their superiors, effectively asking for a new ruling. The new floor approached the table and after getting Gabrenja and the dealer's side of the story he said that the action would be a check. At that point the rest of the table chimed in that it was clear Green was asking for a chip count and the only two people who misread the situation were the dealer and Gabrenja.

The floor then used the new information to agree with the previous floor's ruling, allowing Green to act, as he was in position.

Green went all in, covering Gabrenja, who was visibly upset about the series of events. Eventually, he threw his hand into the muck, disgusted.
