2025 World Series of Poker
The action was picked up with three players already all in preflop and their cards tabled.
Joe Warling: J♠J♣
Carlos Suarez: A♠K♣
Kenneth O’Donnell: K♥J♥
Warling was ahead with pocket jacks, hoping to dodge the overcards. With two kings already out of the deck, his chances of surviving were looking solid.
The board ran out 7♠2♠Q♥3♥9♦, clean for Warling, who secured a full triple-up. Meanwhile, Kenneth O’Donnell doubled up what was left of Suarez’s stack.
Tom Thomas opened to 170,000 in cutoff and got called by Chad Summers on the button.
Both players saw a flop of 9♦3♠K♦ and both checked. Thomas bet 100,000 on the turn 3♦ and got called by Summers.
Both players checked the river A♣ once again. Thomas showed A♥Q♥ for a rivered two pair with the board.
Gambling tax experts are warning poker players to be aware of legislation that "could have a major effect on the industry" after Congress passed the Trump administration’s Big Beautiful Bill (OBBBA) that, among other things, caps gambling loss deductions at 90% of winnings.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill with a 218-214 vote on Thursday after delaying a vote for several hours the previous night.
“It will negatively affect the recreational player," Ray Kondler of Kondler CPA, a Las Vegas-based CPA firm specializing in gambling taxation, told PokerNews’ Keith Becker. "Because in the past, where you could deduct 100% of your losses, now you can deduct 90%. So basically you’re paying income tax on phantom income you might not have ever have made.”
Steven Mann moved all in from under the gun. Feizal Satchu then rejammed from the button, and everyone else folded.
Steven Mann: A♠9♠
Feizal Satchu: A♥K♥
The run out of 9♥8♦4♥8♥2♠ gave Satchu the flush, and Mann was eliminated from the tournament.
Donovan Dicken, who was sitting on the button, was happy to call Yousif Mirjan's all-in raise from the hijack with the flop reading 7♥6♠5♣.
Donovan Dicken: A♦A♠
Yousif Mirjan: 10♥10♦
The rest of the runout 5♦3♣ didn't change anything, giving Dicken a huge pot with his pair of aces, and putting him among the chip leaders.
Level: 26
Blinds: 40,000/80,000
Ante: 80,000
Feizal Satchu raised to 120,000 under the gun. Holden Filartiga went all in two to his left. Next to act, Gustavo De Lima also went all in. That was followed up by Richard Perie going all in immediately to his left. Satchu thought for a while before folding, and the three all-in players showed their hands.
Gustavo De Lima: 10♣10♠
Holden Filartiga: A♥Q♠
Richard Perie: K♥K♦
The flop of 9♥7♦7♥ looked good for Perie, but the turn 2♥ gave Filartiga hope. He made his flush when the 4♥ hit the river, and he let out a loud cheer of "vamo!" as he won this huge pot.
Pei Li opened to 200,000 and got two callers in the blinds, Jonathan Stoeber in small and Hyunil Hong in big.
The all saw a flop 4♣7♣8♦. After the blinds checked, Li shoved all-in for 50,000 and got called by both players once again.
The turn 3♦ was knuckled but on the river 10♦ Hong bet 125,000 after action was passed to him, creating a side pot. Stoeber folded.
Hong showed Q♦6♦ for a flush and, unable to be that hand, Li turned over J♣10♠ and left the table.
On the very next hand, Lakshay Aggrawal under the gun shoved all-in for 450,000. With action folded to the small blind, Hong called heading to showdown.
Lakshay Aggrawal: 6♠6♦
Hyunil Hong: J♠J♥
Hong caught set on the flop 9♠3♦J♦ making Aggrawal pack his bags. The runout 3♠9♦ further improved Hong's hand to a full house eliminating Aggrawal in the process.
