Event #80: $800 Summer Celebration
Day 1a Completed
A field of 3,054 players turned out in force on Day 1a of Event #80: Summer Celebration No-Limit Hold'em, although only 168 of them progressed to Day 2 from this flight. It was a great day to be from the Netherlands because four Dutch players finished in the top ten chip counts after the completion of 22 levels.
Roelof Pepping (2,775,000) is the Dutchman at the top of the chip counts on Day 1a. Fellow countryman Johannes Deusing (2,060,000) occupies fourth place, with Thijs Hilberts (1,835,000) in fifth, and David Peer (1,765,000) in eighth.
Hilberts has almost $870,000 in live tournament winnings, with his largest scores stemming from events in Asia and Australia. He's now looking for a big score in the United States, and it would take a brave person to bet against him achieving that goal after this impressive start.

In addition to the talented Dutch quartet, seven bracelet winners navigated their way through the 22 Day 1a levels. Pei Li (1,360,000), Tom Fuchs (1,005,000), Arkadiy Tsinis (610,000), Jonathan Stoeber (480,000), Jason James (360,000), David Simon (335,000), and David Diaz (210,000) are just a handful of names to look out for on Day 2 on July 4.
Day 1b shuffles up and deals at 10 a.m. local time on Thursday, July 3, with those entrants hoping to still have chips after 22 levels.
PokerNews traditional coverage of this event starts on Day 2, so come back then to see who comes out on top in the $800 Summer Celebration.
According to the WSOP+ App, these are the chip counts at the end of Day 1a.

In poker, like in life, they say records are meant to be broken.
But sometimes, someone sets a milestone that just feels impossible to top. Whether it’s because of insane skill, perfect timing, a bit of luck, or a mix of all three, the World Series of Poker has seen some feats over the years that seem like they’ll never be matched.
However, while all records may eventually fall, these achievements are currently some of the most jaw-dropping in WSOP history. Will any of them ever be broken? Only time will tell. For now, though, here are the most incredible WSOP records that will (probably) never be broken.
The Simpsons is widely regarded as one of the most successful and beloved television shows of all time. But actress and high-stakes poker player Jennifer Tilly, who was married to Simpsons co-creator Sam Simon, tried to stop her ex-husband from making the iconic show.
Tilly, the star of the Chucky franchise and a recent guest on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, revealed her skepticism about Simon pursuing the cartoon in a new episode of the PokerNews Life Outside Poker podcast.
"I remember us trying to keep Sam from doing it because he had been offered his own deal, multi-million-dollar deal, at Hollywood Pictures, which was at the time very trendy," Tilly told PokerNews. "And I said, 'Sam, don't you want to be your own person and do your own shows?'"
In the 903rd episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway is joined by special fill-in cohosts Team PokerStars Pro Jennifer Shahade and Josh Abady of Play Live Melbourne to discuss the latest in the poker industry, including the latest on the alleged chip-dumping incident from the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Millionaire Maker event. Winner Jesse Yaginuma did get paid the $1,000,000 bonus, but he and runner-up James Carroll are still awaiting a decision by WSOP officials on the regular prize money.
Another big story was Golden Nugget cancelling their $1 million guaranteed tournament, much to the dismay of several players, including Kyna England. The hosts discuss the decision and examine the larger concept of guarantees within the poker world. You'll then get highlights from a pair of Meet-Up Games (MUGs), including the PokerNews one at Planet Hollywood and the PokerStars one at Resorts World, where the first $5,300 Main Event seat to November's NAPT was awarded. See who the lucky winner was!
Next, get a sneak peek at the new show Hellmuth's Home Game presented by Poker Night in America (PNIA), a discussion on the state of poker in Australia, and a look ahead to the 2025 WSOP Main Event, which will kick off this week!
A new PokerNews Podcast will drop twice a week during the 2025 WSOP every Thursday and Sunday at 8a PT / 11a ET / 4p UK time. Remember to subscribe to our YouTube channel so you do not miss an episode!
PokerNews' Brad Whitehouse captured a hand on Saturday that might end up being the rarest we'll see all summer at the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP). At the very least, the rarest chop pot.
Gus Hansen and Dzmitry Urbanovich battled for a hefty pot on Day 2 in Event #23: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship with 35 out of 127 players remaining. The pot ended in a chop, but it left future Poker Hall of Famer Nick Schulman in awe.
"I've never seen that before," Schulman, who has seen nearly everything at the poker table, was overheard saying as he glanced at the tabled cards. "Wow, that's an amazing one."
All summer long, PokerNews will be offering updates from both the 25K Fantasy and ODB Fantasy leagues, which you can read in our dedicated hub here.
But did you know that you're also able to follow all the players from both leagues in our live updates? Every player drafted in the 25K Fantasy, as well as all the ODB Bonus players, have been tagged with special badges that allow you to visit out chip count page and filter by said badges. So, if all you want to see are players from those leagues and how they're doing, it's as simple as clicking the badges and then filtering.
What's more, each tournament has a "$25K Fantasy" tab at the top of the updates. Click that and all you'll see are hands played by players in the 25K Fantasy league.
PokerNews understands that when it comes to fantasy, some readers only care about their team, so we've made it simple to follow all your rostered players with a few simple clicks.
Check out this video to see the filtering options in action:
“I probably played better than the last three I won. Everything went my way this tournament. I was always at the top of the leaderboard, never really got short, and probably played my best overall.”
That's what Michael Mizrachi had to say after he cruised to victory in Event #66: $50,000 Poker Players Championship.
Already sharing the record for most $50,000 Poker Players Championship victories with Brian Rast, Mizrachi now stands alone after capturing his historic fourth title on Saturday at the 2025 World Series of Poker. "The Grinder" conquered the 107-entry field, earning $1,331,322 from the $5,162,750 prize pool and further cementing his legacy as the event's most dominant force.
Daniel Negreanu has had a stellar 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) and "Kid Poker" isn't slowing down. Negreanu just reached his fifth final table of the summer in Event #76: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet.
Negreanu entered the third and final day of the Mixed Big Bet event with 83 big blinds, good to be tied second in chips with Marco Johnson and within reach of chip leader Aaron Kupin. He held onto those chips throughout the first hour of play and now finds himself at the final table again second in chips.
Robert Mclaughlin's seventh-place elimination confirmed Negreanu's spot at the official final table as he chases an eighth bracelet.
The tournament drew 458 runners for a prize pool of $1,019,050. The eventual winner will receive $206,982, while each of the seven remaining players are guaranteed a payout of $22,311.
