Martinez Moves in the Right Direction

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante

Roberto Martinez raised in middle position to 2,000, and only Jeffrey Berwick made the call, defending his big blind.

Martinez continued for another 2,000 on the 2♥6♦9♥ flop, which Berwick called.

It was the same strategy on the turn, as when Berwick checked, Martinez bet 2,000 for a third time. This time, though, Berwick upped the ante, check-raising to 8,000. Martinez called, and they headed to a river.

The dealer burned and turned the 9♣, and both players hit the brakes, checking one after the other.

Jeffrey Berwick flipped over A♣10♣, which was unable to beat the 8♥8♣ of Martinez.
