Shay Spikes Two Outer To Survive
Bryan Shay opened on the button to 5,000 but met resistance in the form of a three-bet by Thien Tran in the big blind. Tran had raised to 17,500, and Shay made the call.
The dealer then provided a monotone 4♠7♠3♠ flop, and Tran continued for 13,000. Again, Shay came along with a call.
The Q♣ turn saw sparks fly. Tran elected to check, and Shay took over the betting lead with a bet of 27,000. Tran immediately moved all in, and Shay called.
It was Shay who had the shorter stack and, as such, was at risk of elimination.
Bryan Shay: A♦Q♠
Thien Tran: A♠A♣
It was a sorry situation for Shay, whose spade draw wasn't even live and could only hit a queen to survive.
The deck smiled upon him, though, as the dealer burned and turned the Q♥, not only keeping him alive, but giving him twice as many chips to continue with.
