An Ace in Time Saves the Nine

Level 19 : Blinds 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante

With around 135,000 in the pot and four players going to a 295 flop, the action checked around to Anastasija Zavorotnaja in the cutoff. She fired for 50,000, and Arnaud Mattern, sitting in the small blind, responded with a raise to 165,000. Adrien Zychowski in the big blind gave it some thought but folded, as did JJ Liu in middle position.

Zavorotnaja didn’t waste any time and moved all in for 515,000. Mattern snap-called, and the cards were turned up.

Arnaud Mattern: JJx

Mattern had the edge with his overpair, but the A on the turn flipped the script, giving Zavorotnaja top two pair. The 10 river was no help to Mattern, and Zavorotnaja scored a crucial double-up to keep her Main Event hopes alive.
