Gardes Flops a Set; Merson Three-Bet Bluffs the Flop
Josselin Gardes opened J♥J♦ in early position and got one caller in Damien Luis from the big blind holding Q♠9♣.
Gardes made a set on the J♠3♣K♣ flop, and Luis check-called a bet of 55,000 to the 6♦ turn. Again Luis checked, and again Gardes bet, this time for 165,000. Luis eventually folded his gutshot, and Gardes added to his stack.
In the next hand, Dmitrii Perfilev raised A♦10♦ to 60,000 from the hijack and Greg Merson defended 6♦3♠ in the big blind.
On the 5♠3♥2♠ flop, Merson checked, Perfilev bet 75,000, and Merson called with his pair of threes to see the 2♠ hit the turn. Merson then decided to lead out for 60,000, but Perfilev was having none of it and raised to 180,000. Merson pulled back his initial bet, then slid forward a stack of chips to make a flop three-bet to 475,000.
Perfilev went into the tank for some time, but eventually settled on a fold, which earned Merson the pot.
