Yudhishter Jaswal opened the button to 500 before Portia McDaniels three-bet to 1,600 from the small blind. After the big blind folded, Jaswal made the call.
McDaniels put out a bet of 2,500 on the 10♠5♥7♣ flop, which was called by Jaswal.
Upon seeing the 2♠ appear on the turn, McDaniels fired again, this time for 6,000. Jaswal paused for a few moments before folding and forfeiting the pot to McDaniels.
Heads-up on a completed board of J♥6♣5♣10♣7♠ with several thousand already in the middle, Tirza Sanders checked from under the gun and Tristan Wade bet 8,000 from the hijack.
"That turn got me in trouble," Sanders said as she contemplated her decision. "Just give me a minute."
Sanders eventually folded what she claimed to be aces with the ace of clubs and Wade turned over J♠J♣ for a set.
"Good fold," Wade said as he collected the pot.
A dealer was seen chopping in three a 12,000-chip pot with a board of 6♦7♠4♣5♥3♣ in front of him.
Corentin Ropert in the hijack had 8♣6♣, Rees Fullerton in the cutoff had 8♦7♦ and Ralph Bratcher in the big blind had 8♥8♠ so they all had the same straight and split the pot.
Gambling tax experts are warning poker players to be aware of legislation that "could have a major effect on the industry" after Congress passed the Trump administration’s Big Beautiful Bill (OBBBA) that, among other things, caps gambling loss deductions at 90% of winnings.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill with a 218-214 vote on Thursday after delaying a vote for several hours the previous night.
“It will negatively affect the recreational player," Ray Kondler of Kondler CPA, a Las Vegas-based CPA firm specializing in gambling taxation, told PokerNews’ Keith Becker. "Because in the past, where you could deduct 100% of your losses, now you can deduct 90%. So basically you’re paying income tax on phantom income you might not have ever have made.”
Mikki Mase and Ismael Grijalva arrived on the 9♥10♥Q♣3♦3♥ river when Mase shoved all his chips in the middle. The pot amounted to 20,900, and Grijalva was put at risk for his 34,800 remaining chips.
"Really, first hand, Mikki?" Grijalva asked his opponent. "This is the worst river when I flopped the nuts, he continued.
He then showed Mase K♣J♦, which got him a stern warning from the floor, as that is against the rules.
"Nice bluff," Grijalva eventually said as he folded his hand. Mase showed Q♠Q♦ for a rivered full house.
"Is bluffing even allowed in this game?" he asked as he dragged in the chips.
As recounted by the players at the table, Yueqi Zhu opened to 600 from the button, Michael Niegsch called from the small blind and Thomas Henshaw three-bet to 2,200 from the big blind. Zhu four-bet to 8,200 and only Henshaw called.
The flop came 2♥6♥Q♣ and Henshaw check-called an 8,200 bet from Zhu.
Henshaw led with a 16,000 bet on the 2♣ turn and Zhu called. On the 6♦ river Henshaw shoved and Zhu called to put him at risk.
Henshaw's KxKx were bested by Zhu's AxAx and he become the first casualty of the day while Zhu dragged in a double up worth 600 big blinds.
Zach Hajikypri called in the cutoff while Elvis Reyes raised on the button to 500 and both Brent Barby in the big blind and Hajikypri called.
The flop rolled out K♥9♦10♥ and Barby checked over to Hajikypri who bet 1,300 and only Barby called.
Barby led out for 2,200 on the turn 6♥ and Hajikypri called while both players checked the river A♠.
"Two pair," said Hajikypri as he tabled 10♦9♣ for tens and nines, which was good against Barby who turned over Q♠6♠ for a pair of sixes.
There were roughly 5,000 in the pot on 8♥8♠3♠4♣, Garrett Bok bet 3,000 on the turn from early position, and Erwin Wiechers decided to raise to 15,000 in the hijack, Bok called.
Bok checked on the J♥ river, Wiechers bet 35,000, Bok thought about his options for roughly two minutes before he made the fold.
Wiechers flashed the 4♠.
Mikki Mase made it 800 from the button with Ismael Grijalva calling from the small blind, and David Zodikoff calling from the big blind.
The three players checked all the way to the river on the 4♠10♥5♥3♠4♣ runout. After Grijalva checked, Zodikoff bet 1,200. Mase tank-folded, but Grijalva quickly folded, and Zodikoff won the pot.
