Hans Bosman opened to 26,000 under the gun, and Tolga Demirel three-bet to 80,000 on his direct left. On the button, Rui Nogueira put in a four-bet to 280,000.
Demirel went deep into the tank, and with the clock eventually called, he five-bet shoved for 435,000. Nogueira, facing a tough decision with a pay jump in play and just 90,000 behind, stalled briefly before making the call.
Rui Nogueira: Q♣Q♦
Tolga Demirel: K♠K♦
The board ran out 10♣J♥J♦9♦4♠, and Nogueira was eliminated.
Heads-up on a flop of 9♦4♣3♥, Arnaud Mattern bet 30,000 from early position and Paul Cross called on the button.
The turn was the Q♣ and Mattern bet another 85,000. Cross then moved all in for 405,000 and Mattern spent several minutes in the tank before folding.
At another table, Dong Chen had opened to 24,000 in early position before Paul DiMascio three-bet to 100,000 in middle position. Andreas Putz then moved all in for 172,000 in the big blind and Chen folded, but DiMascio called to put him at risk.
Andreas Putz: A♦K♠
Paul DiMascio: A♣K♣
Both players showed the same hand and were poised to chop the pot as the flop came 8♦3♣K♦. The 5♦ fell on the turn and Putz was suddenly freerolling to a flush as the table let out a collective gasp, but the river was a harmless 9♣.
"My nervous system can't handle that," DiMascio said after the hand.
Christopher Park shoved for 147,000 from the cutoff and Alex Lynskey called with a covering stack from the big blind to put him at risk.
Christopher Park: A♦4♦
Alex Lynskey: A♠J♦
Park was in rough shape with a dominated ace on the 10♣8♦5♠ flop but picked up a gutshot and the nut-flush draw on the 2♦ turn. The K♣ river was a brick and Park exited the tournament area while Lynskey added more chips to his stack.
Meerwais Hussaini opened to 25,000 on the button and Mario Diaz Quilez shoved all in for 85,000 in the small blind. Hussaini quickly called and the cards were on their backs.
Mario Diaz Quilez: Q♥J♥
Meerwais Hussaini: A♣J♠
The flop came A♥K♣9♦ and Hussaini maintained a dominating lead over Diaz Quilez. The 3♥ on the turn made things sweaty but Diaz Quilez could not connect on the 2♣ river.
Vinicius Camargo kicked things off in middle position with a raise to 25,000 and found callers in Miguel Coussement in middle position and Francis Rusnak in the big blind.
On the 6♣J♦7♥ flop, Camargo continued for 27,000, and Coussement made it 70,000. Rusnak check-folded, and Camargo made the call.
Camargo slowed down on the 4♥ turn and checked to Coussement, who made a bet of 75,000, which Camargo called.
Both players checked the 7♦ river, and Camargo tabled A♠J♥ for top pair, top kicker, claiming the pot as Coussement's card found the muck.
Christopher Alcindor raised to 25,000 under the gun and picked up calls from James Pillon in middle position and Ran Ilani in the small blind. Montgomery Cole then moved all in for 160,000 in the big blind and only Alcindor called.
Montgomery Cole: A♥6♥
Christopher Alcindor: K♣Q♥
"I'll take that," Cole said after both players turned over their cards. He remained ahead as the board came J♠9♦7♣2♥, but Alcindor hit the Q♣ on the river to win the pot and send Cole to the rail.
"Nice hand, buddy. Every time. It was nice playing with all of you," a still-smiling Cole told his tablemates as he wrapped an arm around Alcindor's shoulders and gave him a pat on the back before making his exit.
