Breno Drumond called from the small blind before Cary Katz asked for more, raising it 800,000 on top to 1,200,000 total, including the blind. Drumond called to send them to a flop in a bloated pot.

Drumond checked the Q♣5♠7♥ flop before Katz poured 1,600,000 into the middle. Drumond responded with a check-raise to 3,200,000. Katz called, as the pot kept growing.

Drumond announced all-in on the 8♦ turn, and Katz wasted little time before he pitched his cards into the muck.

The flop came 6♣J♣7♦ and Katz check-called a bet of 450,000 from Baek.

Both players checked after the A♦ on the turn, to see the Q♥ on the river. Katz checked once more, and Baek fired out 1,700,000, which Katz snap called.

Baek tabled Q♦7♠ for two pair, and Katz dropped his head down and tossed his cards in the muck, giving Baek the pot.

The 2025 World Series of Poker Main Event has already dished out its fair share of brutal coolers and soul-crushing bad beats, but Day 1d may have taken things to a new level.

Among those to fall victim was Jared Bleznick, whose pocket aces were cracked in a massive six-bet pot worth 267,000 chips, a huge pot this early in poker’s World Championship.

And the drama didn’t stop there. Another player’s pocket kings were sent to the muck after their opponent called off 85 big blinds with nine-seven, while the final level of the night saw a full house run head-first into flopped quads.

In the following two hands, Preston McEwen showed the table who is boss when he is in the blinds.

In the first hand, Jaehoon Baek limped in from the small blind, and McEwen checked his option. The board came with 3♣9♠A♦ and Baek checked, while McEwen put out 500,000. Baek made the call.

Both players checked the turn Q♦ and on the river K♠ McEwen threw out another 800,000 bet and Baek folded, much to the crowd's delight.

In the second hand, Cary Katz raised to 800,000 from the button and McEwen defended from the big blind. The flop came out with 2♦2♥8♦, and both players checked to the turn 6♥.

On the river 10♥, McEwen made his move and bet out 1,700,000. Katz bowed out with a fold, and the crowd roared again.

Cary Katz shoved from under the gun for his final 3,850,000 after enduring a downslide to dwindle his stack. It folded to Breno Drumond, who called from the big blind to send them to a showdown.

It was a battle of a pair versus overcards, and this time the overcards won as the board fanned out Q♦K♣Q♠A♥Q♣ to give Katz a better full house.

Breno Drumond opened the action on the button with a raise to 1,000,000, which was called by Cary Katz in the small blind.

The flop came 6♣8♠Q♠ and Katz checked to Drumond who bet to put Katz all in for his stack of 5,050,000, which was snap called by Katz.

Breno Drumond: A♥K♠

Drumond was in front with his ace high, but would need to fade lots of outs, as Katz had two live cards, a flush draw, a double gutted straight draw, one of which was a straight flush draw. Katz didn't have to wait long hit one of his outs, as the turn brought the 7♦ to give Katz a straight, leaving Drumond drawing dead as the 5♥ hit the river and Katz secured the double up.

Drumond checked the K♣4♣3♣ flop, and Baek bet 1,000,000. Drumond stuck around with a call.

The 9♠ turn led to a check from Drumond before Baek bet again for 1,800,000. Drumond called to send them to a river.

The 7♠ river led to a check from both players.

Drumond showed K♠8♠ as Baek tossed his cards into the muck much to the delight of the raucous Brazilian crowd who began to chant and cheer.
