Jumalon to Battle Saaskilahti Heads-Up for 2026 WSOP Main Event Title

Level 42 : Blinds 1,500,000/3,000,000, 3,000,000 ante

After a slower than anticipated first day of the 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event final table, action picked up significantly on Day 10. A handful of double-ups, suckouts and runner-runner beats later, just two players are left chasing the $10 million top prize and a coveted Main Event banner.

Still in front is 22-year-old Washingtonian Lucas Jumalon, who has yet to surrender his chip lead in the biggest spot of his short poker career. He still needs to fend off Lauri Saaskilahti, who is looking to become Finland's first Main Event champion after receiving a big boost by cracking fifth-place finisher Han Feng's aces.

"That was probably the key hand for today," Saaskilahti told PokerNews at the end of play. "I had a little bit of (an) unlucky (start today), ... but after that, pretty much everything went my way."

Battle of the Rails

The day began with a "Shuffle Up and Deal" announcement from NBA star Draymond Green, who reminded the Main Event hopefuls that even a win would still have most of them 16 bracelets away from his friend Phil Hellmuth.

Away from the final table were proxy battles taking place inside the Horseshoe event center. Segregated rails, distinguished by the color of their custom t-shirts, cheered on their respective players and tried to one-up the other rail's in volume and mass.

The medal had to go to the friends of Greg Mueller. Chants of "WE'RE NOT LEAVING" reverberated from a sea of players in red shirts and red "Shadow" hats, and the cheering only got louder as the former hockey professional scored two double ups, including when his king-jack out-flopped the Big Slick of Saaskilahti.

"Could you imagine being on that rail right now, Ali?" Nick Schulman asked Ali Nejad in the commentary booth at one point.

"Not without a beer," quipped Nejad.

The second loudest rail belonged to Han Feng, who stole the show on Day 9 but ditched his pink cosplay attire for more traditional final table wear. But the 27-year-old Houston native's rail was left speechless as Feng had his aces cracked by the runner-runner straight of Saaskilahti to go out in fifth place for $2,250,000 — enough to buy 11,250 final table outfits.

Heng's elimination followed those of Rami Hammoud and cash game pro Jamie Shaevel, whose eighth Main Event cash ended in seventh place at the hands of Jumalon as the Los Angeles pro — fittingly wearing a Kobe Bryan number eight jersey — missed his flopped straight draw.

Canada's Hammoud, meanwhile, went out in sixth place for $1,750,000, also at the hands of Jumalon as his queen jack couldn't out-run the 22-year-olds ace-five.

Jumalon has not only made good hands at the final table, he's been in them. The young grinder received final table coaching from poker streamer Patrick Leonard, who himself finished 32nd in this event for $265,000.

"Some of the stuff Lucas was doing was at such a high level that I wouldn't even have contemplated doing some of the stuff that he did," Leonard told PokerNews ahead of Day 10. "But it makes so much sense."

Down to Two

Action never slowed down on Day 10. Longtime poker pro and four-time bracelet winner Michael Gagliano, who spent most the day as a short stack, got down to crumbs but found a great spot to double. His king-queen dominated the king-jack of Jumalon, but a jack on the turn put Jumalon far ahead as Gagliano went out in fourth place for $2,750,000.

Not long after, Mueller got to the river against Saaskilahti with a pair of fours, which wasn't enough to beat the pocket kings of his opponent as he called off for his Main Event life. Mueller's rail consoled him with more loud chants as he left the table.

"The energy they brought me, whether I was up ... or down, and making me feel good, the love, the outpour ... Honestly, I can't even describe it," Mueller told PokerNews after his elimination.

Heads-up play on Day 11 will take place on Aug. 5, with cards going in the air at 6 p.m. local time. Jumalon will look to hang onto the chip lead that he has yet to surrender, while Saaskilahti will look to make his white-and-blue-flag-waving rail proud by bringing the bracelet home for Finland.

Jumalon has been in control the entire final table, but how's his heads-up game?

"You know, you guys are just gonna have to stay tuned and find out," he said in an interview.

Hand #151: Greg Mueller moved all-in on the button with K7 and got his bet through to take the blinds.

Hand #152: In the second hand of three-handed play, Lauri Saaskilahti limped in the small blind and Mueller checked in the big blind.

The flop was 4AA and both players checked. The J turn saw Saaskilahti bet 3,000,000 and Mueller called.

After the 3 river, Saaskilahti asked for all of Mueller's chips and the Canadian obliged.

Hand #150: Michael Gagliano shoved for 9,500,000 from the button. Greg Mueller called in the small blind with 44 before Lucas Jumalon three-bet all in from the big blind.

Mueller pulled a face and folded.

Lucas Jumalon: KJ

"How you feeling Gags?" asked Jumalon.

"Feel like I've felt since Day 6," replied Gagliano. "Let's see what happens."

"A65 three diamonds?" said Jumalon.

"A little greedy," replied Gagliano. "At least put ten-nine-something"

The flop came K85

"Ace on the turn?" said Jumalon.

"That's fair," said Gagliano. "No wait, why would...that wouldn't be fair."

"For the chop? Let's chop up Greggy's money," said Jumalon.

A J on the turn, however, removed the chance of a chop with Jumalon moving into the lead.

The river was the 7 and Gagliano was eliminated in fourth place.

"It's unbelievable," Gagliano told Jeff Platt. "I couldn't have asked for more. The support from my friends, my family, people online, people playing, the rest of the fans. It was just unbelievable.

"Obviously, I wish I did a little bit more, but you do what you can with what you're dealt. I don't think I would have changed any decision at this final table. I was happy with how I played. Sometimes that's how it goes."

"It's taken me a while to get there in poker. When I'm at the table, I'm just trying to make the best decision in that moment, in that spot, with the hands I've been dealt and the action that's happening. When I focus on that, I have my best results.

"Obviously, I'd be lying if I said there were no nerves at all, but there are a lot of lights and cameras and everyone's really emotional, so I do my best to keep it level-headed, and I think I did a good job."

The flop came 942. Jumalon led out for 10,000,000. Saaskilahti raised to 25,000,000 and Jumalon called.

The 5 turn came and Jumalon bet 61,000,000 to give Saaskilahti a decision for his WSOP Main Event life. Saaskilahti looked at Jumalon and said "talk to me... if you have it, you have it," and made the call.

The Finn only needed to survive the river card for an enormous double and he did so as the K was tabled, pushing the 188,500,000 pot to Saaskilahti.

Hand #141: Han Feng raised to 6,000,000 under the gun. Lauri Saaskilahti three-bet to 50,000,000 from the button.

Greg Mueller picked up JJ in the big blind.

"Wow," said Mueller, removing his hat and sunglasses to deliberate. "50 [million]?" he asked Saaskilahti.

"50," replied Saaskilahti. "Let's gamble."

Mueller studied his stack and his opponents' stacks extensively and rubbed his face and head.

"Do you want me to call?" Mueller asked Saaskilahti, receiving a quick telling off from the dealer. He laughed, and tanked some more, before ultimately folding.

Feng called and was all in for 25,000,000.

Han Feng: AA All in
Lauri Saaskilahti: 99

The 1083 left Saaskilahti with only one nine to hit. However, the one out became seven with the J turn giving Saaskilahti an open-ended straight draw.

Incredibly, the river was the Q and Saaskilahti made his straight to crack the aces and send Feng to the rail.

"So brutal," said Nick Schulman on commentary.

"Primordial screams and a barbaric end to Han Feng's Main Event," said Ali Nejad.

Speaking to the WSOP's Jeff Platt afterwards, referring to the nature of his exit Feng said, "It's fine, man, it happens. I'm all good."

Platt then asked Feng about his future plans and he replied, "[EPT] Barcelona, it was already booked."

"I'm definitely very emotional," Shaevel told Jeff Platt shortly after busting. "I'm sad right now, but also it won't take long for me to appreciate everything that's happened. It's been beyond a dream come true."

"The sheer number of people who've flown from all four corners of the country, called, texted DM'd whatever - every possible method of telling me they're watching and rooting for me. I'm touched."

Sporting a #8 Kobe Bryant jersey at the final table, Platt asked how much the 'Mamba Mentality' of the late NBA superstar influenced his play at the final table.

"Growing up and watching Kobe and embracing and appreciating Mamba Mentality shaped who I am. The jersey I wore was given out at the memorial game after Kobe passed. It's very special to me, so I thought if I'm going down, I'd like to go down wearing this."
