Ian Matakis raised his button to 12,000. Pavel Plesuv called in the small blind, and the short-stacked Ren Lin defended his big blind.
The 6♠7♥K♠ flop then checked to Matakis, who placed the minimum bet of 6,000. Plesuv raised to 21,000, and Lin called off his final big blind. Matakis instantly released his cards, forcing a showdown.
Pavel Plesuv: 4♠4♦
Ren Lin: 5♠4♣
Lin had an overcard and a straight draw against Plesuv's pocket fours, but the A♥A♦ pair of aces that completed the board provided no help to the jovial Chinese high roller, sending him to the exit.
Under the gun, Klemens Roiter raised to 12,000 and Nick Schulman called from the big blind, leading them to the flop.
Both players checked the 7♥6♥5♦. Schulman fired 16,000 on the 3♣ turn and Roiter called.
Schulman burned a time card before betting 140,000 sending Roiter to the tank. After a few seconds, Roiter called just to muck after seeing Schulman table 8♣4♣ for a straight.
Aleksejs Ponakovs raised to 12,000 under the gun. David McGowan shoved his last 55,000.
Ponakovs asked for the amount and made the call.
David McGowan: A♥3♥
Aleksejs Ponakovs: K♦K♣
McGowan was fully prepared to leave, but the cards had other ideas, as the runout of 7♥3♦Q♣6♥A♠ hit him nicely with an ace on the river for two pair to topple the kings.
Cary Katz raised to 12,000 from under the gun and was looked up by Benjamin Grise in the small blind.
Both players checked the 5♥9♠3♣ flop to see the 8♥ come on the turn. Grise led out for 8,000 and Katz made the call.
On the 3♦ river Grise checked and Katz bet out for 35,000. Grise didn't take long and tossed in the call to table Kx5x but was crushed by Katz's 9♥6♥ and Katz was pushed the pot.
Alexandre Reard moved all in from the button with around 100,000 chips. Joe McKeehen, who was in the big blind, made the call.
Alexandre Reard: A♣Q♦
Joe McKeehen: A♠K♦
The players whiffed in the runout 9♥5♠6♥4♣J♠, giving McKeehen the high hand with his ace-king.
Andrew Lichtenberger raised to 12,000 from under the gun and action folded around to Punnat Punsri in the big blind who four-bet all in for 140,000. Lichtenberger snap-called.
Punnat Punsri: 8♠8♥
Andrew Lichtenberger: 10♥10♣
Things looked pretty grim for Punsri and he needed help. None was forthcoming on the 2♠7♣A♠ flop nor the 2♥ turn and when the 10♦ peeled off on the river and gave Lichtenberger a set it was curtains for Punsri who was sent to the rail.
Ren Lin moved all in under the gun with 122,000 chips. Michael Macchia made the call on the button.
Ren Lin: K♠Q♣
Michael Macchia: A♦K♣
Lin got no help from a runout of 3♣9♥3♥2♣2♠ and was sent to the rail to re-register.
According to the tournament directors, Lin, who registered for the event midway through Level 6 (with 30 big blinds), is the 33rd player to get knocked out and return to play more today.
Registration is open through the end of Level 9, which will be played on Day 2, with players limited to a single re-entry.
Vitalijs Zavorotnijs made it 12,000 to play from under the gun and was looked up by Nick Petrangelo on the button. Adrian Mateos sat in the small blind, then pumped it up and three-bet to 50,000.
Zavorotnijs got out of the way and Petrangelo made the call.
The action went check check on the 10♣10♥8♣ flop, for the players to see the 8♠ peel off on the turn. Mateos went into the tank before he checked to Petrangelo, who sized up a 65,000 bet and slid it out. Mateos went back into the tank briefly before he mucked his hand sending the pot to Petrangelo uncontested.
From the big blind, Santhosh Suvarna checked from the big blind on the A♠8♥Q♠ flop and Ian Matakis bet 25,000 out of the hijack . Suvarna called.
A 5♠ arrived on the turn, prompting another check from Suvarna. Matakis fired a second barrel of 55,000, and again, Suvarna called.
The 2♦ river checked through and Suvarna tabled second pair with Q♥4♠. Matakis had that beat with A♥K♦ for a pair of aces, and he was awarded the pot.
