In the 983rd episode of the PokerNews Podcast, which is sponsored by FanDuel Poker, Chad Holloway and Mike Holtz are at Level 9 Studio in Las Vegas to discuss one of the wilder days in World Series of Poker (WSOP) history!
Not only did the 2026 WSOP $10,000 Main Event officially kick off, complete with Phil Hellmuth's patented circus-like entrance, but both Daniel Negreanu and Martin Kabrhel snagged gold bracelets. That allowed the former to crack the top ten in the 2026 WSOP Player of the Year race, while the latter drew the ire of some fans when he refused to shake the hand of his opponent.
Chad and Mike get into it all, while also thanking sponsor Think Jerky, which you can order here, and shouting out Overlords Caps, of which they're both big fans.
Find out all about those stories and more in this week's episode of the PokerNews Podcast! Oh, and be sure to check out the audio version of the PokerNews Podcast that is available on all major podcasting platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and SoundCloud.
Clement Lafon open-shoved for 3,200,000 in late position, and Adriaan Jacobs in the small blind called.
Clement Lafon: A♣J♠
Adriaan Jacobs: Q♥Q♦
It was looking grim for Lafon when Jacobs caught a set on the 10♦Q♠A♠ flop. He still had outs, but the 5♥6♦ didn't help him turn things around. Lafon left the table as Jacobs scooped the pot. A true sportsman, Jacobs ran after Lafon to shake his hand and bid him good luck.
Justin Coliny raised from late position to 500,000, and Yoann Saubot called from the big blind. The flop came with 8♦A♥K♥, and both players checked.
Both players checked the turn 3♦.
On the river 10♦, Saubot took a shot and bet 500,000, and Coliny called.
Saubot stated, "Good call," and showed Q♥6♣, and Coliny flipped over 5♥5♦ for a pair of fives to take the pot.
Rajagopal Sankaranarayanan in the small blind limped and Michael Starek in the big blind checked his option to see the flop.
The dealer flopped 4♠K♠6♠. Sankaranarayanan check-called Starek's bet of 500,000 leading them to the turn.
After another check, Starek fired 800,000 on the A♥ turn. Sankaranarayanan called.
Finally, on the 9♥ river, action went check, check. Sankaranarayanan turned over J♠8♠ for a flush prompting Starek to throw his hand in the muck.
Michael Starek moved all in from the cutoff for 2,750,000, and Lisa Tan called from the big blind with the superior stack.
Michael Starek: A♣Q♥
Lisa Tan: 10♠10♣
The board came out 8♦J♣A♦4♠2♦, and a pair of aces for Starek kept him alive.
