Rock Howard Flops Well

Level 15 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Big-O

Rock Howard raised to 3,500 from under the gun, and Alan Sternberg called from the big blind.

The flop came {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}, and both players checked. The turn brought the {K-Spades}, and they both checked again. The {2-Spades} fell on the river, and Sternberg bet 4,000. Howard announced a pot-sized raise, and Sternberg quickly folded.

"I flopped the straight flush," said Howard as he flashed {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} with a smile before stacking the chips.

Felipe Ramos Eliminated by John Racener

Felipe Ramos
Felipe Ramos

Big-O

Following a flop of {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, Felipe Ramos (with a few thousand committed) was in the tank on the button for his remaining 6,000 after John Racener had set him to a decision for the rest of his chips from the big blind.

After a little while mulling it over, Ramos called all in.

Racener: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{5-Hearts}
Ramos: {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Clubs}

The {6-Hearts} turn and {7-Spades} river completed the board — no help to Ramos, ending his tournament a few places shy of the money.

Omaha-8

Mark Herm raised from middle position, and Phil Hellmuth called from the button.

The flop came down {K-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Spades}, Herm bet, Hellmuth raised, Herm reraised, and Hellmuth called all in for 5,800.

Herm: {A-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}
Hellmuth: {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Spades}

The {8-Diamonds} turn and {6-Clubs} river completed the board, giving Herm eights full of sevens and the nut low to eliminate Hellmuth.

Poper Trips Up Hellmuth

Level 14 : 500/1,000, 0 ante

Omaha-8

Following the turn of a {J-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} board, James Poper checked from the small blind, and Phil Hellmuth bet from the big blind. Poper called, the {9-Diamonds} completed the board, and both players checked.

Poper showed {6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts} for trip deuces, and Hellmuth stood from his seat and threw down {J-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts} and mucked, giving the pot to Poper.

A Chop for Chainsaw

Level 14 : 500/1,000, 0 ante
Allen Kessler
Allen Kessler

Big-O

The player in the cutoff opened with a raise to 3,000, and Allen Kessler three-bet to 10,000 from the small blind. The cutoff called to commit most of his chips.

The flop came {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, and Kessler bet enough to put the cutoff to a decision for the remainder of his stack. He quickly called, and both players tabled their hands.

Kessler: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{J-Spades}{4-Spades}
Cutoff: {K-Diamonds}{Q-}{J-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

The cutoff had the lead with two pair, and Kessler needed to improve in order to take any of the pot.

"You put your whole tournament on that?" Wow," remarked Kessler.

The {8-Hearts} fell on the turn, giving Kessler a low draw, and the {2-Clubs} on the river completed it, so the two players chopped the pot.

"It's okay to fold a hand once in a while," Kessler said as he stacked his chips.

The {8-Clubs} turn and {3-Diamonds} river completed the board, giving Black the nut flush and nut low to eliminate Lien.

Kevin Gerhart vs. John Racener

Level 14 : 500/1,000, 0 ante

Omaha-8

With about 6,000 chips already in the middle and the board reading {K-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, John Racener was in middle position and heads-up against Kevin Gerhart in the hijack. Racener bet 4,000, and Gerhart called.

The river brought the {4-Diamonds}, and Racener bet 4,000 again. Gerhart called and tabled {A-Diamonds}{A-}{Q-Spades}{9-Clubs}, Racener sent his cards into the muck, and Gerhart took the pot.
