Tom McCormick and Scotty Nguyen Face Off; Kurt Wildin Eliminated

Level 12 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Scotty Nguyen
Scotty Nguyen

Hold'em

After a preflop confrontation, Scotty Nguyen, Tom McCormic, and Kurt Wildin had all put in three bets.

The flop came {A-Spades}{7-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and Wildin moved all in for less than a bet. Nguyen called from the big blind and McCormick raised. Nguyen called, creating a side pot and heads up action.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds} and Nguyen checked again. McCormick bet again, but this time Nguyen let his hand go.

McCormick showed {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} while Wildin showed {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}. The river was the {K-Clubs} and that would seal it for Wildin, who was eliminated from the tournament.

"At what point did you think you were beat, Scotty?" McCormic asked after the hand.

"No, baby. You had the worst hand before the flop," Nguyen replied.

"I guess you had queens or jacks then?" McCormick asked.

"I already told you, baby," Nguyen answered, sounding a little frustrated.

Nearly All of Schwartz's Stack Chopped Up

Level 11 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante

Stud Hi-Lo

We came upon Ylon Schwartz betting into a pair of opponents with four to a flush and two to a wheel on his board, but he faced significant action as Joe Tehan raised him with three diamonds and three to a low, and Jyri Merivirta called.

Schwartz: {x-}{x-}/{a-Spades}{2-Spades}{k-Spades}{9-Spades}
Tehan: {x-}{x-}/{6-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}
Merivirta: {x-}{x-}/{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Hearts}

Schwartz opted to make it three bets, and both of his opponents called. He bet the river as well and got two more calls, though Tehan took some time before putting in the required chips.

"Please be a low card," Schwartz said, peeling his card.

It was, and he flipped over {8-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades} for an ace-high flush and an eight-five low. However, Tehan had {3-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds} for a six-low, and Merivirta showed {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. His flush went ace-king-nine-seven while Schwartz's went ace-king-nine-four, so Schwartz was left with crumbs as his opponents chopped up the huge pot.

Madsen Loses One, Then Wins One

Level 11 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante
Jeff Madsen
Jeff Madsen

Hold'em

We caught up with Jeff Madsen on a board of {7-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{6-Spades}{8-Hearts} with more than 10,000 in the middle already. Madsen was under the gun and he was facing off against Michael Krasienko on the button. On the river, Madsen checked over to Krasienko. Krasienko bet and Madsen called. Krasienko showed {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} and his full house was good to take down the pot.

On the very next hand, Ralph Perry opened from the hijack and was called by Madsen in the big blind.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Madsen check-raised a bet from Perry. Perry moved all in and Madsen quickly called. Madsen was holding {A-Spades}{6-Clubs} and he was well ahead of Perry's {K-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}.

The board completed with the {3-Spades} on the turn and the {6-Diamonds} on the river and that was good enough to give Madsen the win. With that, Madsen evened out his stack a bit and is close to where he started the day.

Level 11 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante

James Mcwhorter: {x-}{x-} / {3-Spades}{5-Spades}{8-Hearts}
John Cernuto: {x-}{x-} / {6-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Joe Tehan: {x-}{x-} / {4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs} — Folded

James Mcwhorter completed the action. "Miami John" Cernuto raised. Joe Tehan called. Mcwhorter made it three bets and both Cernuto and Tehan called.

On fourth street Cernuto and Tehan both checked to Mcwhorter who bet. Both players called. On fifth, Cernuto decided to use the betting lead and bet. Tehan got out while Mcwhorter called all in for the rest of his stack.

Cernuto showed {6-Hearts}{3-Hearts} under for a pair of sixes, while Mcwhorter showed {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}. McWhorter completed with the {9-Spades} and {4-Clubs} and as he wasn't able to improve his hand against Cernuto and he was sent to the rail

Akkari Folds to Trips on Board

Level 11 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante

Razz

We found Andre Akkari betting into an opponent with a pair of eights on board, but Ashish Gupta wasn't deterred. He called a bet and then took the lead on fifth when Akkari caught a king.

Gupta: {x-}{x-} / {8-}{8-}{a-}{8-}
Akkari: {x-}{x-} / {7-}{j-}{k-}{10-}

Both players checked sixth, when Gupta found himself sporting trips, and Akkari checked the river as well. Gupta fired in a bet, and Akkari thought briefly before folding. Gupta showed {9-}{5-}{4-} for a nine-eight, so Akkari's fold was a good one.

Good Start for Team Mercier

Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Razz

As Natasha Mercier was taking a pot off Brandon Cantu a few tables over, Jason Mercier was also finding ways to take down his own pots at his table. In a recent hand of razz he was able to take some from Alex Livingston to his right.

Mercier: {x-}{x-} / {4-}{3-}{A-}{9-} / {x-}
Livingston: {x-}{x-} / {9-}{7-}{A-}{K-} / {x-}

Livingston called the bring-in, then Mercier raised. Livingston was the only caller. On fourth, Mercier bet and Livingston called. Mercier bet again on fifth, and sixth, and Livingston called twice.

On seventh, Mercier led once more, but this time Livingston folded and Mercier was able to take the pot without showdown.

Natasha Mercier Over Cantu

Level 11 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante

Omaha Hi-Lo

Natasha Mercier bet the turn and the river from under the gun as the board ran out {4-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} against Brandon Cantu in middle position. Cantu took some time before calling the river bet, but he mucked as soon as he saw Mercier's {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{q-Spades}{3-Spades} for kings full of threes.
