Helppi Makes a Big Call Near the Bubble

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Juha Helppi
Juha Helppi

The money bubble is just two eliminations away, and a big pot was brewing on table 719 just before the dinner break.

With about 100,000 in the middle, on a board reading {q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, Jack Salter checked from the big blind and Juha Helppi bet 52,000 from the cutoff. Salter paused for a minute before moving all in, having Helppi covered by a lot. Helppi had 226,000 total, and had a big decision to make with the money bubble looming.

Helppi went into the tank for several minutes, clearly agonized by the decision. A crowd started to form as players headed on a dinner break. Salter remained still the entire time until Helppi finally called.

Salter gave Helppi a thumbs up and rapped the table, showing {5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} for two pair eights and fives. Helppi tabled {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a straight to the eight and raked in the massive pot.

Salter asked, "If I made it 150,000 would you have folded?" Helppi replied, "It would've been much easier to fold if you made it 150,000."

Steve Karp Eliminates Jeff Hakim on the Bubble

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Steve Karp and Jeff Hakim got all of their money in the middle on the money bubble. It was a classic race scenario with Karp holding {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} against the {a-}{k-} of Hakim.

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{k-Clubs}. Although Hakim hit his king on the river, it also made a straight for Karp. Hakim was eliminated on the money bubble and the remaining 94 players will be guaranteed a payday of $7,414.

Cate Hall
Cate Hall

On a board reading {j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades}, Cate Hall was in the big blind and all in for her last 38,000 chips. Simon Lam was in early position and gave her action.

Hall had the best of it with {j-Clubs}{10-Spades} and was at risk against Lam's {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

The turn was the {q-Spades} and the river was the {a-Spades}, giving Hall a much-needed double up.

Help-pi!

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Juha Helppi
Juha Helppi

Andy Park limped in from the cutoff and Juha Helppi raised to 23,500 from the small blind. Claas Segebrecht was in the big blind and called for his last 18,500. Park went into the tank and took a sip of his coffee before deciding to call.

The flop came {k-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades} and Helppi decided to check. Park paused for a moment and bet 25,000. Helppi thought about his next move and decided to put in a check-raise to 50,000. Park grabbed his coffee again and took several slow sips before deciding to fold.

"Ace-queen of hearts one time?!" laughed Segebrecht as he tabled {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}. Unfortunately for him. Helppi tabled {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} for two pairs and he needed to hit one of the two remaining fours in the deck to survive. The turn was the {6-Spades} and the river was the {9-Spades}, sending Segebrecht to the rail.

Helppi now has a mountain of chips in front of him and appears to have the top stack for the moment.

Stuer Flops a Set

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

With around 35,000 in the pot and the board reading {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, Matt Berkey checked from the small blind and Julian Stuer bet 26,000. Berkey called and the {5-Spades} fell on the river.

Berkey checked again and Stuer continued with a bet of 62,000. Berkey thought for a couple minutes and eventually placed out a call. Stuer tabled {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for a set of nines and Berkey tossed his cards away.

"Awww! You Made a Pay Jump!"

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Adrian Attenborough came back from just 500 chips, which was just one ante, and spun it up to 17,000. He got his stack in the middle again and got two callers.

When we got to the action, Barny Boatman had just bet another opponent out of the pot and he tabled {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs} on a board reading {k-}{k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. Attenborough was excited because his two pairs were ahead of Boatman's two overcards and flush draw. The turn, however, was the {3-Clubs}. He was still optimistic, but was sent to the rail when the {2-Spades} hit the river.

He was all smiles and, as he was on his way to the payout desk, a comforting Kelly Minkin exclaimed, "Awww! You made a pay jump!"

Minkin Gets Bumped by Boatman

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Kelly Minkin
Kelly Minkin

With about 30,000 in the pot already on a board reading {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, Barny Boatman checked from the big blind. Kelly Minkin was in the cutoff and bet 10,000. Boatman quickly check-raised to 55,000 and Minkin called.

The turn was the {5-Clubs} and Boatman checked. Minkin reached for chips and bet 55,500. Boatman instantly moved all in and Minkin counted out her stack before deciding to call.

Boatman tabled {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} for a set of eights and Minkin rapped the table and said "nice hand" as she tabled {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}, drawing dead to the {a-Diamonds} on the river.

Minkin was eliminated and Boatman stacked up a mountain of chips in back-to-back hands.
