Metaal Gets Lucky

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Govert Metaal (as seen in previous event)
Govert Metaal (as seen in previous event)

It's unclear if it was all in pre-flop action or not but we arrived to the table with the chips already in the pot which was about 100,000 and the flop had just been fanned out which was {q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. Govert Metaal was in late position and had tabled {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Upeshka De Silva was in the hijack and had shown {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}.

The board looked great for De Silva but it ran out with the {3-Clubs} on the turn and the {k-Clubs} on the river giving Metaal a flush and keeping his hopes alive in this final event of the 2017 WSOP.

New Chip Leader

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Roman Korenev (as seen in previous event)
Roman Korenev (as seen in previous event)

Roman Korenev has been quietly and aggressively amassing an empire on one of the end tables. The Russian pro has passed Matt Berkey for the chip lead and is just under the one million chip mark.

Korenev has a plethora of final table finishes amounting over $1.5 million in live recorded earnings. He has yet to win a recorded live event but with four major tournament final tables already reached this year and ten over the 2016 campaign, it is just a matter of time until he breaks through. Keep an eye on him as the event progresses.

Chris Ferguson On the Up

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Chris Ferguson
Chris Ferguson

Chris Ferguson opened from under the gun and picked up calls from Roman Korenev in the small blind and big blind Jimmy Guerrero.

The flop was {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{9-Spades} and a check from Korenev saw Guerrero take the betting lead for a modest 17,000. Ferguson called and Korenev folded.

The turn was the {3-Hearts} and a check from Guerrero saw Ferguson bet 50,000. This seemed to amuse and torture Guerrero in equal measure and he seemed unsure what to do next.

In the end though he folded and Ferguson’s rebuilding continues.

Fast Takes Down a Big Pot on the River

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Dietrich Fast
Dietrich Fast

Unfortunately, we didn't catch the action on this hand but with about 170,000 in the pot and the board reading {10-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{q-Spades} an opponent in the big blind checked. Dietrich Fast was on the button and fired out a bet of 115,000. The big blind tanked for what seemed like five minutes or possibly more... he apologized to the table a couple of times who all responded, "take your time". Fast didn't seem to have any care to call a clock and after the long deliberation, he folded.

Dietrich Fast is a recognizable figure in the poker world and has over 3 million dollars in recorded live tournament earnings. He has won multiple tournaments all across the globe from the United States to Germany to Malta and Monaco and the list goes on. He has seven cashes this summer and this will be his eighth. He is a bracelet winner from the World Series of Poker Europe and a fierce competitor. Watch out for him as the tournament continues.
