Kapoor Amongst the Big Stacks

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Akshay Kapoor
Akshay Kapoor

There are 158 players in contention, with one of the biggest stacks belonging to Akshay Kapoor, who is sitting on 216,000 and was kind enough to tell PokerNews how he amassed such a sizable stack.

Kapoor was responsible for showing $5 Challenge champion Shivan Abdine the door back on the 400/800 level after the two clashed in a hand on an ace-king-jack double club flop, which is when Abdine got the last of his chips in with {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Kapoor had {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and hit running aces on to make the boat and bring Abdine's tourney to a close.

The first hand back after the break saw Kapoor rail another opponent in a multi-way pot, spiking top set with aces on a {a-}{q-}{6-} flop vs. two players in the blinds. While the small blind was able to escape on the turn in the hand, the big blind, holding {q-}{6-} two pair was not so fortunate and that pot shot Kapoor to the top of the counts.

Rubie Eliminated by Smith

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Brendon Rubie
Brendon Rubie

Stan L raised to 2,500 from under the gun. Adam Smith re-raised to 8,200 from middle position. Brendon Rubie three-bet to 18,000 from the button. Stan L mucked instantly. Smith deliberated for a minute then four-bet to 42,000. Rubie immediately moved all in for 78,600. Smith didn't seem pleased with the shove but made the call with more behind.

Smith: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Rubie: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}

Rubie had the best hand, until the board ran out {k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{j-Spades}{9-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}, improving Smith to a full house and the winning hand.

Rubie wished the table good luck before making his way out of the tournament floor.

Obst Shoves on Opponent

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
James Obst
James Obst

James Obst raised to 3,600 from middle position. The player in the cutoff called followed by Katie Gooden in the big blind.

The flop came {k-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Spades} and Gooden checked. Obst continued for 3,200. The cutoff called. Gooden folded.

Both players checked the {4-Spades} on the turn before the {j-Hearts} completed the board.

Obst moved all in for 75,000. His opponent asked for a count, counted his stack, then opted to fold.

Break Time

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

The 169 remaining Main Event Day 1d players are off on their 30-minute dinner break. When they return, there are five 45-minute levels remaining until the day is done.

Tough Fold for Chahine and Ragozzini

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Simon Chahine raised to 2,500 from middle position and was called by the player in the hijack. Sean Ragozzini then raised to 10,000 from the button. Both Chahine and the hijack called.

The flop came {9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{j-Spades} and the action checked to Ragozzini who continued for 11,000. Both players called again.

The {q-Diamonds} dropped on the turn and Chahine thought for over a minute before checking. The player in the hijack then moved all in for 33,400. Ragozzini mucked shortly after. Chahine went into the tank for several minutes.

"Sorry guys," apologised Chahine. "King-queen.. Ace-queen?" he asked himself.

"I don't know what to do," added Chahine, before eventually opting to muck his hand.

"You have king-ten?" asked Chahine.

"I had nothing," smiled his opponent, whilst raking in the pot. "I had a set," he confirmed.

"I'm not doing to badly," said a relieved Chahine.

"If you pushed on the flop I would've called," added Ragozzini after the hand.

Karamalikis Check-Raises Zenonos

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Chris Zenonos
Chris Zenonos

With over 10,000 in the pot and the flop out {6-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{10-Spades} Jonathan Karamaliks had checked the action over to Chris Zenonos in the hijack who had bet out 7,000, with Karamalikis making the call to bring the two to the {2-Clubs} turn.

Karamalikis checked it over to Zenonos who loaded up and 11,000 second barrel, only to get check-raised to the tune of 23,000. Zenonos mulled it over and then began to grill Karamalikis on his holdings.

"You don't believe me or you have a big blind special?" quizzed Zenonos,

Consummate professional that he is, Karamalikis gave nothing away.

"Can you beat top pair?"

Eventually, Zenonos flashed Karamalikis the {10-Hearts} before mucking, with the latter flashing him a smile before raking in the pot to climb to 80,000, while Zenonos still holds a playable 81,000.

White Crushes Rebeira

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Chris White
Chris White

With the flop down {6-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades} Mark Rebeira had moved all-in from the small blind for 98,300 and his opponent in the hand Chris 'the crusher' White was waiting for a count of Rebeira's stack.

After this was calculated White made the call for his tournament life and the two tabled their cards.

Mark Rebeira: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Chris White: {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

In what proved to be an ambitious shove, Rebeira was trailing to White's flopped set and would need some runner, runner action to send White railwards.

However, the {3-Clubs} turn and {j-Hearts} river were not all that helpful and Rebeira took a big hit to drop to 20,000, while White stacked up to 200,000 with that timely gift.

Edwards Rails One

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Luke Edwards
Luke Edwards

There was a raise to 2,400 on the button and a three-bet to 8,500 in the small blind from Luke Edwards before the player in the big blind moved all-in for 9,600 in total.

Both the button and Edwards called the extras and the dealer peeled of a flop of {6-Clubs}{j-Spades}{q-Hearts} with both Edwards and the player on the button checking it through to the {8-Hearts} turn.

The {10-Diamonds} river saw Edwards lead for 10,000 to take the hand heads-up and the all-in player showed down {q-Clubs}{j-} and looked a less than thrilled when Edwards rolled over {k-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for a straight to claim the pot and thin the field by one.

The 405-strong field has now been reduced to 188, with six more 45-minute levels remaining before the conclusion of the final Main Event starting flight.
