Doyle Brunson fires a bet in on the river of a board and Juanda sighs and folds. Brunson laughs and rakes in the chips saying, "Remind me to only play when you're in a pot!"
This round unsurprisingly gets some of its most exciting big pots chopped in the end. It's still sometimes interesting to see how they get there, though. Just now it was Adam Heller vs. Joe Beevers, neither in a hurry to showdown after they reached the river on a board.
"Two pair," announced a cagey Beevers. Then Heller showed just his . Then Beevers showed his . Neither could do better with their accompanying cards, and they split the high-only pot.
Elsewhere a fourway flop of was whittled down to two as Jens Vortmann bet 200 and only Barny Boatman called. On the turn Boatman check-raised Vortmann, who made the call. The river brought the and now Boatman checked a third time to Vortmann, who bet once again; call.
Andreas Hoivold fires out 400 on a board, Mori Eskandani raises 800, the small blind folds and Hoivold then puts in a third bet to 1,200. Eskandani makes the call and then calls another 400 on the river.
Hoivold:
Eskandi:
Hoivold takes the low with 7-6-3-2-A while Eskandi takes the high with an eight-high straight.
With a board showing, Paul Jackson bets the river and Illari Sahamies makes the call with a board. Jackson turns over an 8-5 to make a 8-7-5-3-A low and aces for high. Sahamies turns over for a 7-5-4-3-2 with sevens for the high. Split pot.
Jan Sjavik raises from early position and Mori Eskandani makes the call from the big blind before leading out on the . Eskandani continues firing on the turn and river with Sjavik calling him down. Eskandani turns over for a set with a 8-7-4-2-A low and Sjaviks sighs and mucks his cards.
Ola Brandborn spent the last hand of Stud 8 heads up (after fifth street, when Barney Boatman passed) with short stacked Michael Craig. Brandborn raised showing , and then found a third bet coming back at him from Craig showing . Brandborn called on Sixth as well, before the betting sort of fizzled out and they saw the hands in full:
Craig: [ ]
Brandborn: [ x] for a higher two pair. Craig now on just over 2,000 and in a spot of bother.
On fourth street, showing , Phil Ivey led out with a bet and was called by both Jason Newitt and Thomas Bihl who were showing and respectively.
Ivey fired again on fifth street, now showing a pair of sixes, and both players called:
Ivey:
Newitt:
Bihl:
On sixth, first action fell to Bihl who took the lead with a pair of queens. Bihl exercised his option and led out with a bet which forced Newitt out of the pot. Ivey then opted for a raise and Bihl made the call:
Ivey:
Newitt: (fold)
Bihl:
On seventh street, the dealer almost pitched the final cards face up, but Ivey quickly correctly him, saying, "Down... down!"
The cards safely reached their destinations, face down, and Bihl passed to Ivey who fired one last bet on the river. Bihl made the call, then quickly mucked after Ivey tabled the and to go with his upcards, making a full house.
Ivey now sits with just over 18,000 in chips heading into the second break of the day.
