Sjavik Busts. Matusow Perplexed.

With Jan Sjavik showing a {7-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {2-Spades} {4-Diamonds} board and all-in. Mike Matusow played his {A-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {9-Spades} board aggressively, but Raul Paez called him all the way with a {K-Hearts} {4-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} board. At the end Paez called another bet from Matusow and then the Spaniard flipped over {Q-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {4-Hearts}. "A flush?" said Matusow with an amount of disbelief, "well, what can beat that?"

Sjavik flipped {3-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} for two pair which was no good. He wished everyone luck and left the table.

Woody Smacks the Deck

Razz; Stud:

Having created what he freely admits is a "Maniac idiot image," and the hands before getting some, "Backdoor sickness," in the form of cracking some Aces with a lot of filth, and betting into a player showing {K-?} {6-?} {4-?} showing {9-?} {9-?} {8-?} in Razz (something which raised slight smiles from his table) and then runner-runnering some kind of horrible Eight-low, Woody Deck was proved at last to have at least been paying attention to what the game was...

Early chip leader Adam Osborne and he got into a raising battle on Fifth Street when Woody, who held split Aces in Stud faced Osborne who showed {10-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}. Seeing as he himself held down the {A-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} , he wittered something about Osborne's diamonds not being so good, before switching off somewhat on Sixth and Seventh. No improvement for Woody , while Osborne had picked up the case {A-Spades} - and it looked bad on the river until Osborne announced, "Smooth Eight," not realising that his low was irrelevant and the game had changed. Woody's Aces won.

This story straight from the Horse's mouth, as it were.

Voted Most Likely To Bust Before Dinner

Norwegian Pro Jan Sjavik is looking in a spot of bother, he has only 225 left in chips. He just managed to chop a pot against fellow Norwegian Andreas Hoivold during the Stud 8. But it's look like he'll be able to enjoy an extra long dinner at this rate.

Shorty Sahamies Doubles Up

Razz:

Illari Sahamies hasn't had the best of days and was down to just his last 2,000 or so which was all in by sixth street, showing a board of {10-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {4-Hearts}. Murray Brown made the call with {2-?} {5-?} {J-?} {10-?} and Sahamies flipped {A-Spades} {2-Spades} from the hole meaning he already had 6-4-3-2-A. Brown held 6-4 for T-6-5-4-2 meaning that he was drawing dead. As a result Sahamies is back over 4,000 and at least in with a fighting chance now.

Goodwin Takes a Hit

Hold'em:

Yuval Bronshtein has just taken a decent-sized Hold'em pot away from Englishman Marc Goodwin.

In a raised pot, with the flop showing {9-Spades} {7-Clubs} {2-Hearts}, Bronshtein led out with a 200 bet; Goodwin called.

The {9-Clubs} came on the turn and Yuval fired again -- this time making it an obligatory 400 to go. Once more, Goodwin called.

The {Q-Hearts} fell on fifth street and another bet-call sequence led to a river showdown, at which time Yuval tabled two black kings for two pair, which were good enough to take down the pot.

After the hand, Goodwin dropped to ~6,800 while Yuval improved to 13,900.

Movers and Stackers

In getting the most recent chip counts, a couple had surprisingly changed radically during the time it took to complete a full circuit of the room - most notably I saw Daniel Negreanu raking in a pot from Mickey Wernick, with the English pro saying something along the lines of, "That's why you're the best, Daniel..." Whatever happened in that 10 minutes has propelled the popular player into what looks like the chip lead with 20,000. Others doing well:

Henrik Gwinner - 17,500
Adam Osborne - 19,000
David Benyamine - 15,200

"Johnny, tell them what they're playing for!"

The numbers are in and a total field of 110 players generated a net prizepool worth £275,000.

The top 16 finishers will walk away with a profit, with 16th place set to receive £4,812. The winner of Event 2 will take home a healthy £76,999 which is worth like 50-quadrillion USD! No really, it's the equivalent of about $140,000 USD -- not bad for three days work.

Heller Wins Razz Pot

Razz:

The betting limit now being 200/400 (bring-in 50) there are far fewer pots with up to six players peeling off a card or two. Losing a big pot is no longer just a painless graze, but could end up doing real damage. The last hand I witnessed involved Adam Heller, Theo Jorgensen and Bruno Fitoussi until Fifth street, when Heller bet, Jorgensen passed and Fitoussi dwelled for a good while before making the call. With their final face-up card dealt, their hands looked like so:

Heller: {A-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {5-Spades} {9-Diamonds}
Fitoussi: {4-Hearts} {A-Spades} {4-Spades} {10-Spades}

The final card created no action whatsoever, and Heller's down {7-Clubs} made a Nine low which took the pot.
