Catch-Up

Neil Channing jut filled me in on the goings on at his table.

Firstly, Surinder Sunar knocked out Richard "Chufty" Ashby when his {Q-?} {Q-?} {6-?} {3-?} doubled-suited busted Ashby's "bad aces."

Sunar didn't last much longer though, as he gave a lot of chips to Channing himself before flopping two pair against another opponent. All the chips went in and his opponent turned a bigger two pair.

Patrik Antonius was also eliminated from this table after calling all in on a ten-high flop with {Q-?} {Q-?} {K-?} {J-?}. It turned out to be no good, so he'll have to wait for the Main Event to try and collect his first bracelet.

Beevers Busting 'Em

Jumping for joy
Jumping for joy
Joe Beevers has sent an opponent packing after said opponent went all in on the {2-Spades} {10-Hearts} {J-Spades} flop. Beevers made the call and Bruno Fitoussi made a wistful laydown, and Beevers' {7-Hearts} {10-Spades} {3-Spades} {10-Diamonds} was good for the pot as the {3-Clubs} turn and {6-Clubs} river came out.

Back to Bjorin

Shaun Deeb versus Chris Bjorin again, and this time the tables are turned.

The players saw a {Q-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} flop, and Bjorin bet 4,000. After a brief pause, Deeb made it 10,500, giving Bjorin a tough decision. Eventually he threw the rest of his chips in, Deeb called the difference and they flipped their cards over.

Deeb: {Q-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds}
Bjorin: {4-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}

Turn: {K-Clubs}
River: {J-Spades}

Thus Bjorin made a Broadway straight to pip Deeb to the post and to stay in the game; "Nice hand," said Deeb. Bjorin is now up to around 30,000.

Kravchenko Gets Massive Double-Up

Alex Kravchenko
Alex Kravchenko
Alexander Kravchenko has just doubled through fellow big stack Jani Sointula to move to 122,000 in chips.

With approximately 30,000 in the pot, Alex and Jani got it all in on a jack-high flop that contained two hearts. Kravchenko showed an ace-high flush draw with an open-ended straight draw; Sointula tabled a set of jacks.

The turn delivered a heart for Kravchenko and that was all he'd need to rake in the massive 122,000 pot. After the hand, Jani was left with 15,800 in chips.

No Aches for Akenhead

James Akenhead now sits on a stack of 124,000 and he knocked out a couple of players in the meantime.

A nameless "close friend" filled me in on a few details.

The first gentleman was a bit unfortunate, as Akenhead hit a three-outer on the turn after all the chips went in on the flop. Next up was Brandon Cantu, but he went out with a fight. He and Akenhead got it all in preflop and Cantu managed to flop a wheel straight to stay alive. The next time they got it in though, Cantu and Akenhead both had flush draws, with Cantu having the nut draw. Akenhead also had two pair though, which turned into a full house, and Cantu was out.

This last hand saw Akenhead and an opponent get it all in on a {7-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {10-Hearts} flop. Akenhead had {Q-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} to his foe's {A-Clubs} {4-Spades} {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}. The turn came {9-Spades} and river {5-Diamonds} meaning the two pair held up and Akenhead busted his third victim

Just as I was about to enter this, Akenhead walked past and told me he's on 147,000 now putting him into the chip lead!

Deeb Bisects the Bjorin Stack

Bisectin'

Five-way to the {J-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} flop, Chris Bjorin and Raul Paez checked to Shaun Deeb, who bet 2,500. Padraig Parkinson and Dave Penly both folded behind, but Bjorin and Paez made the call to see a turn.

The turn came {10-Clubs} and now Bjorin bet out 10,000. Paez gave it up, but Deeb enquired as to how much Bjorin had behind -- around 15,000. He raised to cover Bjorin, who promptly folded and turned his attention to cradling his remaining chips.

Gary Jones Doubles Up

Still in
Still in
Gary "The Choirboy" Jones has doubled up his micro stack to around 12,000, getting it all in preflop in a raising war that also initially involved Joe Beevers, who got out of the way when David Benefield got serious with the reraising.

Jones: {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {10-Spades}
Benefield: {A-Spades} {10-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {8-Spades}

Board: {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {K-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {6-Hearts}

The Razor, Dulled

...at least I won my last longer!
...at least I won my last longer!
The ever-dangerous John Phan has just been eliminated from the tournament by Jani Sointula.

Phan opened the pot with a raise to 2,100 and Sointula was the lone caller. The flop came {8-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {7-Clubs} and Phan made a continuation bet of 3,000. Sointula then raised the pot and Phan countered by moving all in. Sointula made the call and a showdown ensued:

Phan: {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {10-Clubs}
Sointula: {Q-Spades} {8-Spades} {5-Hearts} {6-Hearts}

The turn delivered the {K-Hearts} -- a good card for Sointula, as it gave him a heart flush. The river blanked out ({K-Clubs}) and Jani's flush held up to take down the pot, bringing him to approximately 75,000 on the day.

Madsen Sends Williams Stack Flying

Chip vandal
Chip vandal
No sooner had David Williams neatly tidied up his chips into easily-countable stacks, than Jeff Madsen crept up, his finger to his lips to indicate that I should be quiet. Then he leaned over Williams' shoulder and knocked his chips over, before scampering back to his own table. His act of shameless vandalism was met with nothing more than a sigh and a slow shake of the Williams head as he started the long stacking process over again.
