Day 1 Completed

Day 1 Hath Ended

Eight fast-paced hours of "Second Chance" Pot-Limit Omaha have come and gone, and just 45 of the 165 players who started the day will return tomorrow for Day 2.

Along the way we lost Omaha maestro David Benyamine, last year's Main Event winner Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad, and Event 2 final tablists Yuval Bronshtein and Phil Ivey.

Near the top of the leaderboard are pros Jason Mercier, David Williams, Alexander Kravchenko, and Sorel Mizzi, while your unofficial end-of-Day 1 overnight chip leader is Shaun Deeb.

Our coverage of the £5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event will continue at 3:00 p.m. local time (10:00 a.m. EDT) and we'll be following the action until a final table has been decided.

Official chip counts will be posted as soon as we get'em.

Until then, from Leicester Square in London, England -- good night and good luck!

Devilfish Stays In

The Devilfish
The Devilfish
On the very last hand of the night, Dave Ulliott finally got all his chips in the middle, but failed to get a call and finished the day on not much over his starting stack.

With four limpers in front of him, he limped in from late position, and when all the other players checked the {3-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {8-Hearts} flop, so did he. When David Williams bet 4,000 on the {9-Clubs} turn, Devilfish moved all in; Williams gave it up then and there. Devilfish seemed pleased, and showed {8-Spades} {9-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {6-Clubs}. He'll be back tomorrow.

Flushes All Round

A player UTG raised to 3,000 before Erik Albinsson called and Jyri Lammi moved all in for 4,900. Neil Channing called from the big blind as did the other two players before the flop came {7-Spades} {2-Spades} {Q-Spades}.

Channing bet 4,000, the UTG player folded before Albinsson went into the tank. He thought for so long that Mike "Timex" McDonald called the clock on him. Albinsson warned him that was bad etiquette and folded what he said was a flush.

Channing tabled {A-Spades} {J-Spades} {J-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} for the nut flush and Lammi tabled {8-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {K-Spades} for the second-nut flush.

The turn and river changed nothing and Lammi heads off late in the day.

Akenhead Continues to Tumble

Former tournament chip leader James Akenhead continued to fall from glory in a recent hand against Theo Jorgensen that left him with 44,000 in chips.

Chris "Jesus" Ferguson opened the pot from the button with a raise and Akenhead made the call from the small blind. Action then fell to Jorgensen, who reraised, kicking it up to 14,000. Ferguson laid down his hand and Akenhead made the call.

Akenhead then checked the {A-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {K-Spades} flop, after which Jorgensen moved all in for his last 15,000. Akenhead re-checked his hole cards and studied the situation for a brief moment, but eventually his cards were chucked into the muck.

Jorgensen improved to 48,000 in chips with the win.

Gould Struggles, Then Busts

Josh Gould is one of those unfortunates who have found themselves woefully short and attempting to double up or bust out before play stops for the night in half an hour.

A flop was dealt; it was {A-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}. Gould checked, Sorel Mizzi checked, and David Williams bet 2,000. Gould instantly raised pot, leaving himself 11,000 behind. Mizzi got out of there, and Williams paused. "I need a spin up," explained Gould. A moment later, Williams pulled a face as though his cards had broken wind under his nose, and passed his hand back to the dealer.

A few hands later, though, with mere shrapnel left and a complete unwillingness to come back tomorrow without a playable stack, Gould got his chips in and they never came back out again.

"Fowl" River for Alistair

The charismatic Alistair Fowler has just been eliminated from the tournament by Robert Williamson III.

Fowler got his money in good on the turn holding top two pair (queens and tens), but Williamson had outs to match his overpair (kings), as well as an open-ended straight draw.

A king fell on the river -- the case king, as luck would have it -- and Fowler left the table a good sport, wishing everyone good luck in his exit.

After the hand, Williamson stacked up just over 70,000 in chips.
