Six Tables Left

59 players remain, and the last of the upstairs tables has been broken. Half of our Level-Ninesters are now arranged on three tables up on the spacious stage that seems to have become known as "Centre Court"; the other half are stuffed on to three very cramped tables in a curtained-off section at the side of the stage.

Juanda Play With Me?

First hand back from break, and John Juanda got busy getting his chips in again -- that's technically two hands in a row, albeit with a 20 minute hiatus between the hands in question.

He shoved from the button with {K-Spades} {9-Diamonds}, but the short-stacked gent in the small blind woke up with {A-Spades} {Q-Clubs} and called all in. Showdown.

Board: {3-Hearts} {K-Hearts} {7-Spades} {10-Hearts} {7-Diamonds}

"Ship it to JJ!" shouted tablemate Tony Cousineau as soon as the king hit the felt, perhaps a little insensitively. The unfortunate bustee politely bid the table goodbye and good luck, and Juanda is up to almost 16,000.

Jacks for Juanda

On the last hand of the level, John Juanda pushed all in from the button for a total of 3,775 and received a call from Markus Ristola in the big blind. Although claiming to have played the hand blind, Juanda flipped over {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}, whilst Ristola could only muster {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}.

"Wow, you got some outs," observed an astute Juanda as the flop came {7-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop. The {3-Diamonds} turn is close but no cigar, and although the {2-Spades} offered the illusion of some sort of straight being out there, the knaves stood firm and Juanda earned his double through.

Hands Off Hansan's Chips

We caught up with the action on the turn of the {J-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} board, Martins Adeniya betting out 3,500 into an already sizable pot. His opponent, the very youthful Mike Hansan, flat-called and they saw a river.

The river came down the {2-Clubs} and Adeniya now checked. His hands shaking really quite wildly, Hansan pushed three ragged stacks of brown and yellow 100-denomination chips across the line, an amount which turned out to be 4,300. After a little while, Adeniya folded. Hansan's very serious face quickly melted into a most endearing giggle.

Hansan's up to 24,000 after that, while Adeniya drops to 11,000.

Lady Comes Through for Thew

With the board reading {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}, Azzy Asghar led out for 2,200 and Julian Thew called. "Good call," complimented Asghar. Thew showed {Q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} to take the pot and now has around 15-20,000 in chips after a slower-than-usual start. If he manages to hit third gear, we'll all be in trouble!

Cat-Nipped in the Bud

Rob Garfield is out after pushing with sevens, and running into both tens and aces which also shoved behind. "As soon as I saw the aces, I said 'goodnight' and got ready to hit the bar, but then the first card out was a seven. Unfortunately, it came four diamonds meaning the guy with aces made the nut flush."

Why does this game tease so much?
