Event 1 - £1,000 No Limit Hold'em

Day 1b Completed

Day 1b Concludes; Onwards to Day 2

Well, that went quickly.

Today's 313 runners imploded over the nine-and-a-quarter levels played today, and as the chips are bagged and tagged it looks as though we have just 50 remaining. Among the folks who didn't make it were a veritable bunch of famous poker faces, including Phil Ivey, Barny Boatman, John Tabatabai, Annette Obrestad, Liv Boeree, Allen Cunningham... The list goes on, and we refer you to the "Busted" section of the chip counts page to that end.

Those who managed not to bust today, though, include:

- Big stacks Chris Ferguson, Nicolas Levi

- Medium stacks John Juanda, Padraig Parkinson

- Smaller stacks Jeff Lisandro, David Docherty

The biggest stacks at the end of play today seem to be Fabien Dunlop on 64,000 and the very entertaining Stephane Hansen on around 45,000 -- nowhere near the 99,000 that JP Kelly ended up Day 1a with, but tomorrow is another day.

Join us from 2pm GMT+1 tomorrow when today's survivors will join with the 40 players who made it through Day 1a in an attempt to play right down to a final table.

This is Eazzy

Some last-minute good fortune for Azzy Azghar after he put a short stack all in with pocket sixes, only for the short stack to turn over pocket jacks.

Nevertheless, a six on the river and the short stack became a stackless hobo heading for the door; Azghar meanwhile moved on up to 24,000.

Dunlop Tires of Being Chip Leader

We're not sure exactly how it happened, but former chip daddy Fabien Dunlop has dropped to around 35,000, meaning that as far as we can see, the rather excitable but undeniably entertaining Stephane Hansen is our current chip leader.

Must Be Nice

Next hand after knocking out Julian Thew, Stephane Hansen raised from the cutoff and got looked up by bothe the gentleman in the small blind and Nick Holbrook in the big blind.

All three players checked the {9-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {7-Spades} flop, and the blinds checked around to Hansen on the {J-Clubs} turn as well. He bet 1,675 and the small blind gave it up, but Holbrook called.

Both players checked the {Q-Clubs} river, and Hansen turned over {Q-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} for a rivered pair. Holbrook gave him a look that was around midway between disgust and amusement, and mucked.

"The monster's killing 'em!" cried a now very cheerful Hansen. "Sorry, dude."

He's up to around the 45,000 mark now.

No Thews Is Good News for Hansen

Julian Thew is out in dramatic fashion after his 10,225 river bet was called by Stephane's Hansen's {3-Spades}{3-Clubs} on a {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{4-Spades} board. Julian had {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and could only tap the table in defeat.

I joined the action on the final street, but Padraig Parkinson, who is sandwiched between the two players, retold the action (please imagine flustered, Irish accent):

"Julian raised, this guy called. Julian bet the flop, this guy called. Jack on the turn, Julian bet again, there was a load of time wasting, he asked for a count, so on and so on. He called, Julian pushed the river, he called again. It all took a very long time" Parkinson then turned to Hansen and asked, "Why didn't you just stick it all in preflop and save us all the trouble?""I wanted all his chips," came the reply. "He would have still called!" barked Parkinson jokingly.

Nevertheless, it was a brave call from Hansen, who now has circa 40,000 in chips as a handsome reward.

Elgie Not Doing Well-gie

Chris Elgie, after quietly accumulating a respectable quantity of chips all day, is right back down to his 3,000 starting stack.

It seems he got involved with Martins Adeniya, who had a straight, and when Elgie's flush draw failed to come in, Adeniya doubled up to 18,000. "I knew he had it," confessed Elgie, "But I wanted a double up." Fair enough. "But I'm a fighter," he grinned.

Bathmanathan Takes One Off Jesus

Chris Ferguson raised to 1,500 from under the gun and Ganesh Bathmanathan made the call in the small blind. Bathmanathan checked prior to the {8-Hearts}{2-Spades}{A-Diamonds} flop, and Ferguson checked behind. On the {2-Diamonds} turn, both players checked, only for Bathmanathan to lead out for 1,200 on the {10-Diamonds} river. Ferguson made the call.

"I have an ace," decalred Bathmanthan as he revealed a {7-Spades}, then indeed the {A-Spades}. Ferguson was stoic in defeat and simply mucked his cards in silence.

Bathmanathan now on around 30,000.
