Markholt Doubles Through Juanda

A few moments ago, a short-stacked Lee Markholt doubled through fellow pro John Juanda.

On a board showing {K-Spades}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, Juanda checked to Markholt who fired a 400 bet. Juanda responded with a check-raise, making it a total of 2,000 to play -- the majority of Markholt's stack.

"I knew you thought I was bluffing," said Markholt, as he tossed the remainder of his stack into the middle. Juanda called the extra 500 or so and Markholt tabled two black sevens for a set. Juanda had straight and flush outs, but the river blanked kicking Markholt back up to over 5,000 in chips.

Torrid Company

(Hold'em)

Looking to hold his own amid tough competition (Deeb, Ivey, Seidel), former GUKPT winner Jerome Bradpiece has his head just above water with 7,650. He just played two consecutive pots, the first seeing him bet 500 of the turn of a {K-Spades}{3-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{10-Spades} board, before checking down the {6-Hearts} river with Seidel and picking up the pot with {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}. On the very next hand, he defended his blind before check-folding to a 450 continuation bet on a {K-Spades}{3-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{10-Spades} board. Focused and seemingly 'in the zone', Jerome Bradpiece could be a dark horse for this event if he can survive what is torrid company.

2007 Champ: Chip Leader

Your current chip leader is 2007 Main Event Champ Annette Obrestad, who has 26,500 in chips. Having conquered the online Hold'em MTT world, Obrestad has developed a fondness for Omaha of late, and recently informed me that she's been spending most of her time at the Omaha tables rather than Hold'em.

Giggle Giggle

Phil Ivey (yes, he's here -- arrived at the start of level 3) and long time friend Erik Seidel just tangled in a small pot that had both of them coyly giggling at each other from across the table.

(Omaha)
On a board showing {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}, action was checked around to Ivey who bet out 350. Everyone folded to Seidel who made the call and the {9-Clubs} fell on the turn.

A pair of checks sent us straight to the river, {2-Spades}, where Seidel checked once more, prompting Ivey to bet 700.

Seidel stared at Ivey from across the table, all the while exchanging a series of quirky smirks with his friend and foe. The hand culminated with a Seidel pump-fake fold/call after which Ivey tabled {A-?}{K-?} for top two pair. Seidel then revealed two queens for a set to take down the pot.

After the hand, Ivey was left with right around 7,900 while Seidel improved to just over 10,000.

Hellmuth Fights Back

(Hold'em)

Despite a poor start, the Poker Brat is mounting a mini fightback having taken a pot off Yuval Bronshtein. Having reached the turn of a {7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{8-Hearts} board, Hellmuth raised Bronshtein's leading bet of 825 all in for his remaining three (or so) thousand - Bronshtein made the fold.
