Shak Awards Merson Some Fame

Greg Merson during the October Nine bubble
Greg Merson during the October Nine bubble

With all the ESPN WSOP Main Event footage being shown lately Greg Merson hasn't had anything to complain about getting media attention. The October Nine finalist is sitting at the table right in front of the PokerNews desk, and Dan Shak just hinted towards some possible action at the table.

Shak thought he was going to get involved himself, but things panned out a bit different. Dominik Nitsche had raised under the gun to 300, after which Merson three-bet to 1,150. The other players, including Shak, folded and Nitsche made the call.

The flop showed {7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Nitsche checked. Merson moved all in for 1,950 and the German bracelet winner called.

Showdown:
Dominik Nitsche: {Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Greg Merson: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}

The turn was the {4-Spades}, and the river the {8-Diamonds} giving Merson a double up.

Benyamine Dispatches Bronshtein

"He was short," we heard David Benyamine telling Daniel Negreanu as Yuval Bronshtein walked away from the table. We made out way over to discovered that Benyamine held {K-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{J-Spades}{10-Diamonds} on a {J-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} board, and while the dealer had already mucked Bronshtein's hand, we do know that the Frenchman's hand was good enough to score the knockout and chip him up to 20,000.

Meanwhile, W.J. Vincent has been eliminated from the tournament.

No Comeback For Lisandro

David Benyamine just raised to 300 after which Jeff Lisandro moved all in for just 625 chips. The action was folded back around to the Frenchman who quickly called.

Showdown:
David Benyamine: {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{3-Spades}{4-Spades}
Jeff Lisandro: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{10-Spades}{5-Clubs}

The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, and Benyamine took down the pot with a pair of aces.

Big Stacks Battle

With 2,850 in the pot and a flop of {3-Hearts}{A-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, David Benyamine bet 1,700 from the small blind and received a call from Dan Smith on the button. When the dealer burned and turned the {9-Spades}, Benyamine gathered some chips and came out firing to the tune of 4,900. It proved to take down the pot as Smith, who is still sitting with a monster stack, casually tossed his hand to the muck.
