Jonkers and Shimon Play the 'Box Game'

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
Mathijs Jonkers
Mathijs Jonkers

One of the beautiful things of the WSOPE Main Event is the incredible structure. Players start with 100,000 in chips, which will still be over eighty big blinds at the start of Day 2. The structure makes it that the players are definitely not in a rush and have some time to spare after folding.

Mathijs Jonkers and Matan Shimon made a game out of folding. There is a little box on the table and if they manage to throw both cards in the box while folding, they may collect €10 from the other player.

One of the other perks of the amazing structure is that the late registration for the tournament is still open until the end of the fourth level on Day 2.

Soyza Would Have Won Both

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Andres Zepeda raised to 1,500 from the button and Michael Soyza three-bet to 5,500 in the small blind which Zepeda called. They both checked through the {8-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop and the {6-Hearts} on the turn to the {k-Spades} on the river. Soyza bet 16,000 and Zepeda snap-folded.

The hand right after, Soyza raised to 1,500 from the button, Manish Goenka called in the small blind, Piotr Nurzynski three-bet to 7,500 from the big blind and both Soyza and Goenka called.

The flop came down {8-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, Goenka check-called the 6,500 continuation-bet of Nurzynski and Soyza folded.

They both checked through the {10-Hearts} on the turn and the {3-Hearts} on the river. Goenka tabled {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} for the flopped top pair and Nurzynski picked up the pot with the {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for the turned set of tens.

"I would have won! I had a heart..." Soyza commented with a smile but neither Goenka nor Nurzynski responded.

Big Pot for Szarka Without Showdown

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Stefan Schillhabel raised from early position to 1,200 and Steve O'Dwyer called from the cutoff. Button Orkeny Szarka three-bet to 4,500 and initial raiser Schillhabel got out of the way, but he wasn't able to shake O'Dwyer off.

The flop was dealt {4-Spades}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades} and O'Dwyer checked to Szarka. Szarka continued with a bet of 9,000 and O'Dwyer called again.

The turn was the {10-Hearts} and O'Dwyer knocked on the table again. Szarka bet 12,000 and O'Dwyer took his time. After a couple of minutes, he raised to 32,000, only to see Szarka three-bet all in for 88,000.

O'Dwyer immediately picked up his cards, but he didn't fold right away. It took a couple of seconds before he let go of his hand.

"We're Keeping it Friendly Here"

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Carlo Savinelli sat under the gun as he had two 1,000 chips laying in front of him. Will Kassouf three-bet from the button to 5,000 and Savinelli was in doubt about what to do.

"We're keeping it friendly here. If you show, I'll show" said Kassouf to his table mate.

Savinelli ended up calling and they saw the {Q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop appear. Savinelli check-called a 5,500 bet from Kassouf and the {2-Spades} turn was dealt. Both players checked and they did the same on the {8-Spades} river.

Savinelli showed {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and Kassouf showed {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}. Savinelli was awarded the pot while Kassouf is still playing double the starting stack of 100,000.
