From a starting field of 1,789, just 20 players remain after Day 2 of Event #1: €350 Opener at the 2021 World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE).

Such was the size of the field, the original plan to play until a final table was reached was scrapped and 14 levels were on the menu instead. By the end of what was a gruelling day, Volodymyr Legkyi has bagged the chip lead. He eliminated Dennis Magro late in the day in a pot of over four million chips to eventually bag 6,775,000.

Behind him comes Narcis Nedelcu (6,145,000) and Robert [Removed:345] (4,480,000) who are the only players over four million in chips.

Day 2 Recap

A total of 379 players returned for Day 2, but only 269 of them were guaranteed to cash. Bracelet winners Espen Sandvik and Sebastian Langrock would both bust short of the money, before Grzegorz Wyraz became the unfortunate bubble boy after blinding down to just 1,000 chips and busting.

Players who made the money included 2019 Opener champion Renat Bohdanov (229th - €531), Tobias Peters (225th - €531), Sandro Pitzanti (179th - €664), Jan Bendik (176th - €664), Michal Mrakes (169th - €664), Day 1b chip leader Zdenko Slavik (136th - €701), Claudio Celenza (111th - €749) and Day 1a chip leader Marc Meden (33rd - €2,009).

The remaining 20 players will all return tomorrow at 1 p.m. local time to play down to a winner.

Nicolaj Dantoni
Nicolaj Dantoni

Nicolaj Dantoni shoved preflop for 890,000 after the open from early position of [Removed:344].

[Removed:345] called and when the cards were turned over Dantoni was ahead with {a-Clubs}{j-Spades} against the {a-Spades}{8-Spades} of [Removed:345].

The flop {10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{q-Hearts} and the turn {6-Spades} kept Dantoni safe, however the {8-Diamonds} on the river sent him to the rail in 21st.

Big Stacks Battling

Level 29 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Both Narcis Nedelcu and [Removed:344] were in action on a {2-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{5-Hearts} board with over a million chips already in the middle.

Nedelcu checked the {a-Clubs} turn and [Removed:345] bet 475,000. Nedelcu took his time before check-raising to 1.35 million. [Removed:345] also tanked, and eventually folded.

Nedelcu showed {4-Spades}{5-Clubs} and took down the pot.

Still Time for a Runner-Runner Triple

Level 29 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Willibald Stopfer raised all in for 330,000 from under the gun and got calls from [Removed:344] and Nicolaj Dantoni.

The two players checked down the {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts} board and [Removed:345] showed {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}. Dantoni showed {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} but Stopfer had gone runner-runner to make a flush with {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and triple up.

Dennis Magro Eliminated in 25th Place (€2,399)

Level 29 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Dennis Magro
Dennis Magro

Dennis Magro opened for 160,000 from the cutoff and Volodymyr Legkyi three-bet from the button to 400,000.

Magro called and they both saw the flop {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{3-Hearts}.

Magro checked and Legkyi bet 300,000. Magro shoved all-in for 2,200,000 and got snap-called by Legkyi who had flopped a set with pocket tens {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}.

Magro was drawing very thin with pocket fours {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}. The turn {2-Diamonds} and the river {2-Spades} didn't change anything and Magro finished 25th.
