Benitez Holds On For a Double

Level 18 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

With around 250,000 already in the pot on a flop of JJ5, Francisco Benitez bet 125,000 from the button.

Leon Sturm then raised to 250,000 in early position, Benitez shoved all in for 405,000, and Sturm called.

Francisco Benitez: 1010
Leon Sturm: KQ

Benitez was ahead with two pair, while Sturm had a flush draw. The 3 turn was no help, while Benitez secured the double up once the A fell on the river.

Quan Zhou raised to 75,000 under the gun, leaving 18,000 behind, and Andrej Desset called in middle position.

"Time to gamble," Desset said heading to the QJ6 flop. Zhou checked, Desset tossed in a blue 25,000 chip to put him all in, and Zhou called off his last chips.

Quan Zhou: A7
Andrej Desset: 88

Desset was ahead with his pair of eights as the 6 and 3 completed the board to send him to the rail.

Amsellem and Eljach Continue Their Tussles

Level 18 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Jacob Amsellem
Jacob Amsellem

On the river of a board reading Q1010J6, Jacob Amsellem bet 111,000 out of the big blind.

"What do you have, a flush?" Omar Eljach in the cutoff inquired. Both engaged in some chatter back and forth, during which Eljach asked if ace-king was any good.

"Oh man, this is the best hand I had all day," Eljach added and folded a few seconds later.

Amsellem offered to show one card and Eljach picked the one on the left. Ioannis Angelou-Konstas was sitting the closest and flipped over the 2.

The guessing game then began and Eljach nodded when Angelou-Konstas put him on pocket kings.

A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words

Kevin Roethlisberger jammed all in for 80,000 from the cutoff and the action folded to big blind Viktor Blom, who made the call.

Viktor Blom: AK
Kevin Roethlisberger: QJ

"I took a picture with this guy earlier this week, and now he is going to bust me," Roethlisberger joked.

Roethlisberger was right, as the KJ5QA runout gave both players two pair, but Blom was awarded the pot with the higher one.

Kenjic and Al Labani Find Their Fate

Level 18 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Yulian Bogdanov
Yulian Bogdanov

Jovan Kenjic was left short and jammed around eight blinds with king-ten. He was up against the KK of Hyunsup Kim and spiked a gutshot on the J92 flop. The K turn gave Kim a set of kings and no queen came to the rescue on a blank 6 river.

One table over, Hael Al Labani was sent to the payout desk as well.

Yulian Bogdanov opened to 32,000 on the button and Al Labani made it 127,000 to go in the small blind. Bogdanov clicked it back to 227,000 and then called the shove by his table neighbour on the other side of the dealer for what appeared to be 637,000.

Hael Al Labani: AQ
Yulian Bogdanov: AK

The kicker played on the J968A runout as the rich got richer.

Eljach Blasts Amsellem Off Top Pair

Level 18 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Omar Eljach raised to 32,000 under the gun and was called by Jacob Amsellem in the hijack, while big blind Petr Svoboda also came along.

"Sandwiched again. Danger," Eljach said heading to the 1097 flop. He and Svoboda checked over to Amsellem, who bet 70,000.

Svoboda folded, but Eljach put in a raise to 170,000. Amsellem asked how much Eljach had behind before flashing the 10 and mucking.

Eljach showed the J as he took the pot. "You flop the nuts," Amsellem said.

"No. I don't play jack-eight," Eljach said as both players have been quite friendly with each other at this table, constantly laughing and joking.

Viktor Blom took his seat at this table while this hand was in progress.

Sturm had picked up aces and had Loeser at serious risk of elimination as the flop came Q53.

The 2 turn gave Loeser a straight draw, but he missed the Q river and was sent to the rail.

Amsellem Expands Stack With Min-Raise

Level 18 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Kevin Roethlisberger raised from the hijack and Jacob Amsellem defended his big blind.

The flop of 298 then saw Amsellem check before Roethlisberger put in a bet of 25,000. Amsellem opted for a raise to 50,000 and Roethlisberger called.

On the 10 turn, Amsellem upped the ante to 110,000, and this was enough to let Roethlisberger lay his cards down.

Fewer Than 100 Players Remain

Level 18 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

The tournament clock ticked to just 98 players remaining and the last two contenders to bust were Adrian Strobel and Zaki Hamani. The latter never recovered from losing a big pot to Salih Atac and then found his master in Alexander Tkatschew.

Hamani put his hopes on K8 and was up against A10. The 1093 flop had given them a flush draw before the 3 turn and 8 river sealed his fate.

Hamani was visibly upset and jumped out of his chair, tossing over a glass in the process before storming out of the tournament area.
