Casagrande Hits the River to Bust Deeb

Shaun Deeb raised to 3,200 in early position and Bernd Gleissner called in the hijack, while big blind Harald Casagrande also came along.

The flop came J♥3♣2♣ and Deeb bet 12,000. Gleissner called, while Casagrande raised to 45,000. Deeb tanked for a moment before calling for his last 30,000, while Gleissner also took a few minutes but eventually left his two opponents heads-up.

Deeb was ahead with two pair as the turn came the 9♦. The river, though, was the A♣ to give Casagrande aces and jacks and send Deeb to the rail.

Heads-up on a flop of K♥J♠3♥, Gergo Nagy bet 13,000 from early position and Wing Po Liu raised to 60,000 in the big blind. Nagy then moved all in and Liu called for his last 80,000.

Liu showed top two pair, but Nagy had top set as the board ran out Q♥8♣ to send the defending champion to the rail.

With roughly 65,000 in the pot, the action was caught on a board of 5♠4♥4♠9♠ with Lars Brodin having check-called from the cutoff to a bet of 18,000 from Jonas Kronwitter.

Brodin led out for 50,000 upon seeing the A♦ hit the river and Kronwitter quickly called.

Brodin turned over 10♣9♣6♠4♦ for a boat, nines full of fours, which was good as Kronwitter tossed his cards into the muck.

Five players put in 25,000 each preflop, and the dealer fanned out a flop of 2♦7♦4♠. Andre Filip Cruz was first to act and shoved for roughly 75,000 and was only called by David Frieling in middle position, who had slightly less chips.

Cruz turned a flush on the 4♦ turn, which would leave Frieling drawing dead as an inconsequential 7♠ hit the river.

Shuts Slams the Door on Derkowski

Grzegorz Derkowski bet 8,000 from middle position on a flop of A♠9♣8♦ and Tomas Ribeiro folded the big blind out of turn without noticing Maksim Shuts still had cards in front of him on the button. Shuts called and he and Derkowski went heads-up to the 2♥ turn.

Derkowski then bet 30,400, Shuts moved all in, and Derkowski called for his last 50,000. Derkowski had 10♠9♦7♠6♦ for a pair and straight draw, while Shuts showed A♣Q♣J♥8♣. The river was the 10♣ and Shuts took the pot to send Derkowski to the rail.

All three players checked the 10♠6♦9♦ flop and Koleckar bet 7,000 on the 2♠ turn. Both Jaros and Kozub called.

The K♠ river was checked down and Jaros showed Q♦Q♥J♠9♣ for a rivered straight to win the pot. "You have a queen every hand," a tablemate told him as Jaros dragged in the chips.

Tom-Aksel Bedell limped under the gun and Iisakki Ullakonoja just called from the small blind. Isabell Gsuck then raised to 3,200 from the big blind and Bedell called. Ullakonoja then put in another raise to 14,800 which both Gsuck and Bedell called.

The flop of 9♦J♠7♥ got checked through for the 10♣ to come on the turn. Ullakonoja checked, Gsuck bet 32,000 and got two folds from her opponents. Gsuck flipped over QxQx5x3x for just a pair of queens as she took down the pot.

Ryan Feldman, co-owner of Hustler Casino Live, revealed on PokerNews' Life Outside Poker podcast that he was kicked out of the 2016 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event over a conflict of interest stemming from his employment at ESPN.

In the 16th episode of the podcast, host Connor Richards speaks with the producer/founder of the most popular livestream in poker history about why he was booted from poker's biggest tournament, along with numerous other topics such as sports journalism, interviewing star athletes, leaving ESPN to start a poker stream, founding HCL and putting together some of the most entertaining lineups in poker history.

This interview was filmed in July at the 2024 WSOP inside Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
