Great Call

It was no fluke that Magnus Persson made the final table in this event in 2007 if a call he just made against Rob Akery is anything to go by. Persson raised to 4,800 from the hijack and called Akery's 11,200 three-bet from the SB. The flop came down {10-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{k-Spades} and Akery led for 14,200. Call. Both players checked the {q-Spades} turn before Akery bet 33,000 on the {q-Hearts} river when checked to him. Persson took a few minutes then made the call.

Akery could only muster {8-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, behind to Persson's {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Akery down to 98,000 whereas Persson is up to 152,000.

Greenstein Pushes Around Dolan

Barry Greenstein (Day 1b)
Barry Greenstein (Day 1b)

Barry Greenstein raised to 5,000 from early position and November Niner John Dolan called from the cutoff seat. Greg Mueller also called and he was on the button. The three of them saw the flop come down {6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Greenstein fired out 9,000. Dolan stuck in a raise to 26,000 and that knocked Mueller out of the pot. Greenstein leaned to get a look at Dolan's stack, who moved his arms to accommodate Greenstein's view. Then, Greenstein slid out a tall stack of red T,5000 chips to set Dolan all in. Dolan insta-mucked and Greenstein picked up the pot.

Greenstein was kind enough to break his stack down for us and let us know he's on 194,000 now. That's about 60,000 above the current average. Dolan on the other hand, dropped to right about 100,000.

Boatman Sinking

Ross Boatman was facing a bet of 28,000 on the river of a {J-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{J-Spades}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades} board when I arrived. The aggressor was Rob Akery, perhaps more commonly known as high stakes pro Vaga_Lion.

Boatman made the call, but was soon met by the bad news as Akery flipped {A-}{J-} onto the felt. A frustrated Boatman revealed {Q-}{Q-} before mucking.

Boatman down to 45,000.

Schulman and Wigg Get It In

From under the gun, Phil Ivey raised to 5,200. IN the cutoff seat was Nick Schulman and he made the call. Bojan Gledovic called on the button and then Anton Wigg three-bet from the small blind to 23,700. Ivey checked on Wiggs stack and the raise amount before making the call. Schulman then reraised again to 70,000 even. Gledovic folded and Wigg moved all in. Ivey folded and Schulman quickly called.

All of this aggressive preflop action was basically all for nought after both players tabled {A-}{K-}. There was no flush for either player as the board ran out {J-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{4-Hearts} and they chopped up Gledovic's and Ivey's money.

Mouthed Off

Mike Matusow pushed for around 30,000 from late position holding {A-Hearts} {6-Clubs} and Andrew Pantling gave him a spin with {8-Spades} {8-Clubs}. The board came {4-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {10-Diamonds} and Matusow couldn't improve enough to get a much needed double up. He was eliminated as a result.
