Daniel Negreanu just handed over 20,000 of his stack to Remy Biechel in a hand that went into the break but said to the Frenchman he could've got the lot on the flop. Negreanu raised to 4,600 and was only called by the Frenchman to go to a flop where Negreanu's 4,500 c-bet was called by Biechel. The turn came and this time Negreanu check-called an 11,000 bet. Both players checked the scary river.
Negreanu tabled but lost out to the Frenchman's for a set. Negreanu down to 111,500, whereas Biechel up to about 100,000.
It's the last break of the night, twenty minutes of down time. We'll be back to play one more level before the Day 2 survivors head off to the bar or to the bed for the night.
Back shortly.
We take a moment to recognize the departures of Jon Aguiar and Allen Cunningham in rapid succession. Details are scant (we understand Aguiar lost a 150,000-chip race with jacks against ace-king), but the long and short of it is that our field is minus two dangerous players.
Mark Thurgood has doubled up his short stack. Fabrizio Baldassari opened the cut-off to 4,000, Thurgood pushed all in from the button and Baldassari made the call.
Baldassari:
Thurgood:
Board:
Thurgood back up to 65,000.
JC Tran has been eliminated by Markus Golser in a cooler of a hand. The action folded to Golser on the button who made it 3,600 to go and Tran called in the SB to see a flop. Tran then check-raised Golser's 5,000 c-bet up to 15,00 and called all-in when Golser shoved.
Tran: for a flush.
Golser: for middle set.
The turn bricked but the river came to make quads for Golser to put him up to 175,000.
Jani Sointula raised to 3,600 from middle position and had about 24,000 behind. Nick Schulman made the call from the big blind and the flop came down . Both players checked to see the fall on the turn. Both checked again and the fell on the river. Schulman fired 5,200 and Sointula called. Schulman tabled the and Sointula mucked, dropping to about 19,000. He is still the tournament's short stack while Schulman moved to 290,000 and is one of the big stacks.
Stephen Elias open-pushed from late position for around 25,000 and Mike Matusow called out of the blinds.
Elias:
Matusow:
Elias ran good enough that he flopped a flush when the board came and then made two pair as well on the turn and river. Elias is up to 50,000 while Matusow dropped to 41,000.
From the cutoff seat, Phil Ivey raised to 4,000. Matt Stout made the call from the big blind and the two were off to a flop. Don't get too excited though because after the flop of , Stout check-folded to a 6,000-chip continuation bet from Ivey, making him just another customer to the Ivey store.
