Minnesota's Matakis Takes It on the River

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

The player on the button opened for 1,800 and Minnesota's Ian Matakis called from the small blind. Taylor Hale came along from the big blind and it was three-way action to the {7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{k-Spades} flop. Two checks saw the button continue for 3,500, Matakis called, and Hale got out of the way.

After the dealer burned and turned the {6-Hearts}, action went check-check and the {9-Diamonds} completed the board on the river putting out four to a straight.

Matakis led out for 4,500 and that's all it took as his opponent gave up on the hand.

Leecy Makes Strong Call to Eliminate Foe

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

We happened upon the action on a flop of {7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} with 22,500 in the pot. Matt Leecy, who earlier this year won the inaugural Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Poker Classic for $112,425, had 10,000 out in front of him on the button but was in the tank. That's because his opponent had apparently check-raised all in for 42,200 total.

Leecy thought long and hard before flicking in one chip to call and the hands were turned up.

Matt Leecy: {a-Spades}{8-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

The at-risk player had flopped a double gutshot straight draw, though a six wouldn't help him. That's because Leecy had called with a superior ace that meant a six would give him a bigger straight. The straight talk proved to be a moot point as neither the {q-Clubs} turn nor {7-Hearts} river changed a thing.

With that, Leecy's strong call earned him a big pot.

Big Slick for Morrison

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

David "ODB" Baker raised to 1,600 from early position and action folded to Israel Morrison, who defended his big blind to see a {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop, which both players checked.

Morrison then bet 3,000 on the {2-Diamonds} turn, Baker called, and the {j-Clubs} completed the board on the river.

Morrison bet again, this time 4,500, and Baker thought a bit before making the call. Morrison rolled over the {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} and it was good as Baker sent his hand to the muck.

Rocha Takes Big Chunk of Farrell's Stack

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Ben Farrell
Ben Farrell

With 15,000 in the pot and a flop of {2-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}, Alex Rocha was in the cutoff debating what to do as his opponent, Ben Farrell, had bet 3,500 from the button.

Eventually, Rocha called and then checked the {q-Hearts} turn. Farrell upped his bet to 14,000 and Rocha took his time before calling to see the {9-Hearts}, which put four hearts on the board.

Rocha waited a bit before checking it over to Farrell, who bet 30,000. Rocha paused for a few beats before check-raising all in and Farrell snap-folded to conserve the 16,000 he had back.
