Ali Imsirovic Bags Big in Wynn Millions, Wins High Roller in Same Day

Level 12 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Ali Imsirovic
Ali Imsirovic

Ali Imsirovic is pretty much unstoppable at this point in his career, and he proved that once again Sunday when he bagged big in the Wynn Millions Main Event Day 2ab session and then won a PokerGO Tour $10,000 High Roller in the same casino before bed time.

The Bosnian poker pro is fresh off a banner year in which he took down Player of the Year awards from the Global Poker Index and PokerGO Tour.

In 2021, he won 14 high rollers, eight more than any other player. Overall, he cashed for over $6 million in live tournaments last year and now has $16.5 million lifetime, per the Hendon Mob.

Starting the Day off with a Bang

Imsirovic began his day at noon PT inside the Wynn Las Vegas with a big stack entering Day 2ab of the $10,000 buy-in Wynn Millions Main Event, a $10 million guaranteed no-limit hold'em tournament.

He'd continue stacking chips throughout the five-hour session, more than doubling his stack from 258,000 to 566,000, and was one of 67 players who bagged chips. Chad Eveslage left the Las Vegas Strip casino with the largest stack at 939,000.

Imsirovic will return for Day 3 on Tuesday in hopes of chasing his 19th win in a $10,000 or higher buy-in tournament since the start of 2021. First place in the Wynn Millions Main Event will pay over $1.6 million, which would put the 27-year-old poker star above the $18 million mark lifetime 13 years before he's even eligible for the Poker Hall of Fame.

Finishing the Day with a Title

The Day 2ab session zipped on by at a surprisingly quick pace, which meant Imisirovic could work the night shift and register for the Wynn High Roller Series Event #3: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em event. He had to late register as the tournament began at 2 p.m. But it didn't take him long to spin up a stack.

The tournament attracted 60 entrants, nine of whom were paid. The final table included two French pros — Sylvain Loosli and Johan Guilbert. They were the first two out after the money bubble burst.

6Sergio Aido$36,000
7Arden Cho$30,000
8Johan Guilbert$24,000
9Sylvain Loosli$18,000

By the time six-handed play began, Imsirovic had over half the chips in play and was dominating the final table. It would take him just one hour to finish his final five opponents off and take home $180,000. Sam Soverel was the runner-up and received $120,000 for his efforts.

Imsirovic now has four high roller titles already in 2022 and is on pace to surpass his memorable 2021 run. He'll return to the Wynn Tuesday when Day 3 begins in the Wynn Millions Main Event. The PokerNews live reporting team will keep you informed throughout the entire tournament.

Remember, there are still two PokerGO Tour High Rollers taking place here at the Wynn Millions, all of which count for the 2022 PGT Leaderboard. There will be $10,500 buy-in High Roller on March 7 and a $15,700 High Roller on March 8. Click here to see the current PokerGO Tour Leaderboard.

Wong Raises River

Level 12 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Jerry Wong was out of position in a heads-up pot on a board of {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{k-Clubs} with around 55,000 already in the middle.

Wong checked on the river and his opponent put out a bet of 20,000. Wong responded with a check-raise to 100,000, and his opponent lamented how "sick" the situation was before folding.

PN Podcast Special Edition: Eugene Katchalov on Escaping Ukraine Amid Russian Invasion

Level 11 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante

In the latest PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway chats with Eugene Katchalov, Ukraine's all-time money leader, about his harrowing escape from Kyiv as Russia invaded. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner and World Poker Tour (WPT) champ documented his experience in real-time via Twitter, which gave his followers a glimpse into civilian life during war.

"Feels surreal, like being inside of a war movie. Don’t know anyone who expected it to get this bad," Katchalov tweeted.

He also informed his Twitter followers that he found a few hotel rooms in a local village and "will likely spend at least a few days" there. Later in the day, he decided to change up his plans and head toward the border, which he crossed after being stuck in "massive traffic and hoping there will be gas to fill up along the way."

Katchalov spoke to PokerNews about what he and his wife experienced, as well as what they're doing now to help family, friends, and other refugees looking to get out of Ukraine.

Katchalov, who retired from poker in 2018 to switch to E-Sports, is Ukraine's all-time winningest tournament player with $9.2 million in cashes while Yevgeniy Timoshenko is in second place with just over $7.8 million.

While this is a poker podcast, the topic discussed is much bigger than the game.

Rheem Gets Folds, Is Amazed

Level 11 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante

Sue Johnson opened to 5,000 in middle position and Chino Rheem three-bet shoved a stack of about 45,000. Hoan Nguyen tank-folded from the big blind and Johnson thought through her decision as Rheem made inquiries.

"What do you have?' asked Rheem. "Two pretty cards?"

Johnson eventually folded and told the table that she ace-queen, while Nguyen said he laid down pocket tens. Rheem couldn't believe his opponents laid down such big hands and let them know as much.

"You had ace-queen?!" he exclaimed. "What the f*** is going on?!"
