2015 WSOP Europe Day 11: Niall Farrell Leads at the End of Day 1a of the Main Event

Niall Farrell

Day 1a of the 2015 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event, which kicked off in Berlin, Germany, attracted 109 runners, but after six levels of play, just 57 remained with the UK's Niall Farrell and his stack of 150,000 leading the way.

According to updates from the event, Farrell got a portion of his chips right at the end of the night when a four-bet preflop pot brought about a flop of A74. Alexander Ivarsson bet 8,000, Farrell called, and the 10 appeared on the turn. This time Ivarsson bet 12,500, and again Farrell just called.

When the Q completed the board on the river, Ivarsson shoved all in for roughly 32,000, which Farrell called. Ivarsson rolled over the 1010 for a set, but it was no good as Farrell held the KJ for a rivered straight.

"You know, I am a bit embarrassed," Farrell said after the hand. "After eight years of poker I am still shaking."

Others who made it through to Day 2 include Fedor Holz (73,300), who was involved in the 888 Poker Hand of the Day when he eliminated reigning WSOP champ Martin Jacobson; EPT Barcelona champ John Juanda (59,850); 2009 WSOPE champ Barry Shulman (31,850); and Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel (20,625).

Of course not everyone was so lucky. Among those to fall on Day 1a were Adrian Mateos, John Gale, Jan Heitmann, Anton Wigg, Steve O'Dwyer, Terrence Chan, Guillaume Darcourt, Bruno Fitoussi, and online star Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky.

Sulsky fell after three-betting to 2,700 from the small blind over the 1,200 open from Dror Amiram on the button. Amiram responded by moving all in, and Sulsky called off with the 99, which was ahead of his opponent's A5. Unfortunately for Sulsky, the flop fell 855 to deliver Amiram trips. Neither the 7 turn nor 3 river helped Sulsky, and he hit the rail. Amiram went on to bag 43,675.

Day 1b will kick off at Noon local time on Monday. PokerNews will bring you a recap of that flight upon completion of play.
