Run It UP! Reno Kicks Off Tomorrow at Peppermill Resort Spa Casino

Jason Somerville

Run It UP! Reno hosted by Jason Somerville – a six-day festival that will take place at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno, Nevada – is set to kick off tomorrow!

The series, which will run through October 25, is not you run-of-the-mill poker event. Instead, attendees are slated to have a truly one-of-a-kind experience .

"The RIU Reno series is unlike anything that has ever really existed before in poker," Somerville told PokerNews. "For me, RIU Reno is not just about playing poker, but also having a fun experience from the get go. I'm trying to invite a variety of interesting people that are going to come and make the event special regardless of how your poker goes, regardless whether or not your aces hold up during the tournament, you're still going to have a good time."

Somerville also revealed that approximately 100 people are confirmed to be flying in, which of course doesn't include the locals who'll be there. Among those expected to attend are UFC fighters T.J. Dillashaw and Martin Kampmann; Paige VanZant, who is a rising strawweight fighter in the UFC; two Survivor champions in "Boston" Rob Mariano and Tyson Apostol; and poker pros Dan O'Brien and Danielle 'dmoongirl' Andersen. There's also a rumor Daniel Negreanu may attend.

In addition, PokerNews' own Donnie Peters and Remko Rinkema will be there all weekend long to provide fans a glimpse of all the happenings.

"PokerNews couldn't be happier to be working with Jason Somerville for his Run It UP Reno event in October," explained PokerNews Editor in Chief Donnie Peters. "The RIU brand has grown immensely, and all of Somerville's endeavors promote positive growth of the game. PokerNews shares that same vision. Having Somerville as our resident pro on the PokerNews Podcast for the past two summers has helped take our product to the next level, and we hope to do the same for the RIU event."

Here are some highlights from the upcoming series:

  • Welcome party at EDGE nightspot
  • Qualification to buy-in to $2,000 added Tuesday Takeoff Tournament
  • UFC athlete-hosted morning workouts
  • Poker seminars hosted by Jason Somerville and surprise guests
  • Special Run It Up games, contests, and prizes TBA
  • Multiple trophy poker tournaments
  • Main event final eight players live stream on Twitch TV hosted by Somerville at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 25
  • Survivor viewing party hosted by "Boston" Rob Mariano and Tyson Apostol

Meanwhile, the premier event of the series is the Run It UP! Reno $565 Main Event with a $100,000 guarantee. This event will feature two starting flights and take place over three days, Oct. 23-25, with the final table streamed on Twitch. In fact, it's the first Main Event engineered and designed specifically for Twitch, which will live stream the final table with Somerville serving as commentator, provided he doesn’t make the finale. In addition, the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be providing live coverage and daily podcast from the event.

"The most marquee event is obviously the $100,000 guaranteed Main Event," Somerville said with an excited voice. "We're going to be live streaming that event on Twitch and I'll be doing the commentary. That's going to be awesome in a lot of ways, and it's taking a lot of effort and energy to make sure it's all done right, but it's going to be done correctly."
