Sunday Briefing: Igor Kurganov Wins $1K Sunday Supersonic

Sunday is traditionally the biggest, busiest day for online poker tournament players thanks to sites running their largest tournaments of the week. Apr. 28 was no different despite thousands of poker players competing at the European Poker Tour Monte Carlo festival; some took time out to grind online.

$1,050 Sunday Supersonic 6-Max at PokerStars

Team PokerStars Pro Igor “IgorKurganov” Kurganov added to his already glowing reputation by taking down the $1,050 Sunday Supersonic, a six-handed hyper-turbo affair that only took two hours and six minutes to complete, giving everyone who cashed an amazing hourly rate.

Nobody enjoyed the tournament more than Kurganov who walked away with the $42,858 top prize. The UK-based Russian defeated Uruguay’s “MB TREMENDO” heads-up to secure another online title, resigning the Uruguayan to a $32,904 consolation prize.

Earlier at the six-handed final table, Hungary’s “Wildace_hun” banked the $11,432 sixth-place prize to take their lifetime winnings ever closer to $3 million. Then “Tinas21” Of Norway fell in fifth-place for $14,890.

Fourth-place and $19,395 went to Rob “batoelrob” Hollink of the Netherlands before Julian “jutrack” Track of Germany crashed out in third-place for $25,262 leaving Kurganov and MB TREMENDO to battle heads-up for the title, a battle we already know Kurganov won.

$109 Sunday Million at PokerStars

A monster-sized field of 10,224 competed in this weekend’s PokerStars Sunday Million with the top 1,826-finishers sharing a slice of the $1,022,400 prize pool.

All but one of the nine players at the final table won a five-figure prize, China’s “papatsr423” being that one player, netting $7,626 for their ninth-place exit.

Mexico-based Spaniard David “davaman” Lopez, who once earned 1 million VPPs in only three months, finished in eighth-place for $10,606 and was joined on the rail by “GregX89X” of Russia and Poland’s “Inflames6” who secured payouts of $14,751 and $20,516 respectively.

Greece’s “dpsd05” crashed out in fifth-place for a $28,534 addition to their bankroll before Romania’s “Lionet” narrowly missed out on winning their second Sunday Million title, busting in fourth-place for $39,686. The Romanian won the Sunday Million back in May 2014 for $203,088.

The penultimate elimination was that of Austria’s “Chillero1441” who scooped $55,195, a fantastic result when you consider their previous largest score was worth $6,811.

This left “slarki1” of Canada and “sica26” to fight heads-up for the title. The heads-up duo struck a deal to make the pay jump shallower, so when slarki1 fell in second-place they netted $81,770 with Romania’s “sica26” banking the $101,770 top prize.

Sunday High Roller Deepstack: $200K Gtd at partypoker

It was a Russian one-two in partypoker’s Sunday High Roller Deepstack: $200K Gtd this week. A field of 190 entries left a slight overlay and the Russian duo took full advantage.

The first exit from the eight-handed final table was that of “sluuvtanuuv” of Sweden who collected $5,500 before “SouhftfW” of Croatia busted in seventh-place for a $7,000 prize. Ukraine’s number one online poker tournament player Roman “SanityWaterline” Romanovsky was the next player to bust, his sixth-place finish securing a $9,000 score.

Everyone else was now guaranteed a five-figure prize. “WeisYis” of Estonia locked up fifth-place and $11,600 before “screen_name1234” of Netherlands saw their tournament end in fourth-place, a finish worth $16,600.

Third-place and $23,200 went to partypoker regular “spinner2255” of the UK, which set up a heads-up dual between Russia pair “sweet_dreammm” and “CrazyLissy”. The Russians ended the tournament early by agreeing to a deal that saw CrazyLissy crowned champion and receive $38,035 with sweet_dreammm finishing second for $38,024.

Sunday Gladiator: $250K Gtd at partypoker

The Sunday Gladiator: $250K Gtd is partypoker’s biggest weekly PKO tournament and awarded $68,080 to its champion this week.

That champion was Canada’s “Muzuma” who won the $24,334 first-place prize that was boosted by $43,476 worth of bounty payments. The substantial bounty payment included their own scalp and that of runner-up “shorezydrew” who collected a combined prize worth $28,934 only three weeks after locking up a career-best $74,662 in a POWERFEST PKO tournament at partypoker.

All but two of the final table players received more than $10,000 when bounties were taken into consideration. Finland’s “rdcrsnn” netted $8,059 in total before Elio “donzledubru” Fox helped himself to an $11,202 haul, slightly more than “AlexSeb0715” who finished one place deeper.

Mexico’s “a8risoli” walked away with $9,558 before Mark “Ilove2fish” Telker took his lifetime winnings closer to $11 million with a $21,544 haul.

Russia’s “f8ndorin” then busted in third-place for $21,309 leaving shorezydrew and Mazuma in a battle for the title, a fight that Mazuma emerged victorious from.

$100,000 Sunday Mega Deep at 888poker

The $100,000 Sunday Mega Deep at 888poker came close to making its guarantee but fell short by 12 entries. Not that it bothered those who finished in the top 45 places who shared the $100,000 prize pool.

A pair of poker’s established players found themselves at the final table. Sweden’s Robin “Inho” Ylitalo, a former European Poker Tour champion, ran out of steam to bust in ninth-place for $1,750. Ylitalo has almost $11.5 million in online poker tournament winnings.

Three-time Sunday Million champion Artem “veeea” Vezhenkov isn’t a name you want to see at your table so the players must have breathed a sigh of relief when he fell in seventh-place for $3,400, leaving the waters slightly less shark infested.

The top three finishers won at least $11,000 each. New Zealand’s “GABriela1” busted in third-place for $11,000, leaving Brazil’s “CutinuaBR” and Finland’s “tikkapekka” as the last two players standing. It was the latter who secured the title and the $19,350 top prize, with CutinuaBR adding the $14,500 runner-up prize to their bankroll.

$20,000 Sunday Challenge at 888poker

Canada’s “bustingyou” lived up to their name by taking down the $20,000 Sunday Challenge at 888poker. The Canadian defeated “amaze1” Of Germany heads-up, busting them in second-place for $3,968 and ensuring the $5,504 first-place prize was theirs.

Two Peruvians made it to the final table, “O_fenomeno9” and “n0seratv”. The former fell in ninth-place for $512 with the latter busting in fifth-place for $1,536.

Russia’s “Lucky_Frutti” busted in fourth-place for $2,240. The Russian has $2.5 million in online poker tournament winnings and was arguably the most experienced player at this final table.

Sunday Blade 10K at Natural8

Canada’s “SasukeUchiha” was the big winner at Natural8 this week after the Canadian topped a compact yet talented field of 35 in the Sunday Blade $10K. The $339,500 prize pool was shared among the top five finishers with “Shark Bait” being the first player to cash, banking $21,339.

“TexasPete” of Costa Rica ran out of luck and chips to fall in fourth-place for $33,902 before Mexico-based grinder “carsonwentz” busted in third-place for a $53,861 addition to their bankroll.

Heads-up saw “PokerBluff1” of Hungary take on “SasukeUchiha” for the title and the not-so-small matter of $144,825 for first-place. No deal was struck despite there being a $59,255 difference between first and second-place.

SasukeUchiha came out on top to scoop the $144,825 top prize, while PokerBluff1 was the runner-up, a finish worth $85,570.

Sunday Blade $5K at Natural8

Forty entries were processed in the Sunday Blade $5K meaning the $50,000 guarantee was almost exceeded by four-times! $190,000 was shared among the top five finishers with $81,050 reserved for the eventual champion.

That champion was the Natural8 regular “NOMAMES” of Mexico who found themself in the unenviable position of being heads-up against Ukrainian superstar Roman “SanityWaterline” Romanovsky. Obviously unfazed by their talented opponent, NOMAMES ran out a worthy champion to secure the $81,050 payout and resign Romanovsky to $47,889.

Earlier at the final table, “vamossuerte” fell in fifth-place for $11,942, “MiMosa1” crashed out in fourth-place for $18,973 and Canada’s “RockyMarciano” collected $30,143 for their third-place exit.
