Another Huge Call at Triton Poker Cyprus as Kudinov Looks Holz Up w/ Ten-High

Viktor Kudinov

What is going on at Triton Poker Cyprus? Just one day after Patrik Antonius made headlines for an impressive bottom-pair hero call at a $25,000 high roller final table, Russia's Viktor Kudinov made an insane call against Fedor Holz with just ten-high.

The big play came at the final table of the $30,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed event at the Triton series, which Kudinov ended up taking seventh in for $164,000, while the German Prince finished in fifth for $272,300.

Not a Believer

The hand took place at the final table with eight players remaining and blinds of 50,000/100,000/100,000. Holz began the action with a raise to 240,000 from the small blind with 64. Kudinov called from the big blind with 109.

The flop came Q2K and Holz checked, while Kudinov checked back. The turn brought the K and Holz stabbed with a bet of 175,000. Kudinov called with his gutshot.

The river brought the A and Holz fired a bet of 390,000 with total air. Kudinov used a time bank as he thought about a call with just ten-high.

"Flatting with ten-high would literally be the sexiest thing I've seen in a Triton (event) so far, and we've seen some very sexy plays," Ali Nejad said from the booth.

Kudinov somehow found the call and waited for Holz to table his hand before showing the unlikely winner. Holz gave a respectful nod after seeing his bluff fail and Kudinov quietly raked in the pot.

Over-Bluffing at Triton?

Kudinov's massive call with ten-high was acclaimed on social media, with some comparing it to a legendary jack-high call Erik Seidel made at 2015 EPT Monte Carlo.

In a tweet accompanying a video of the hand, Triton Poker questioned whether "everyone (is) just massively over-bluffing in the Triton Super High Rollers."

Jeremy Ausmus, a regular on the high roller circuit, countered the idea that his high-stakes peers are over-bluffing.

"Bluffing at more optimal frequency’s likely," said Ausmus.

For his part, Holz thought the call by his opponent made sense, noting that "my value bets are some traps and Qx and bluffs are worse than 8-high."

"He needs to call some of his J and T high and 9T seems a good candidate for the price he’s getting," Holz wrote on Twitter.

The $30,000 high roller is still underway, and here's a look at the remaining schedule for Triton Poker Cyprus.
