Double Delight for Gabriel Tavares; Brazilian Captures Both Titans Titles On Same Night

Gabriel Tavares

The Titans event at PokerStars is one of the toughest online poker tournaments. The $5,200 edition combines a high buy-in with a compact field, with the entrants usually reading like a who's who of the poker world. Brazil's Gabriel "gtavares10" Tavares was part of the 39-strong all-star cast in the WCOOP Boot Camp edition of the $5,200 Titans this weekend.

The small field meant only the top five finishers received a share of the $200,000 prize pool. That meant "SerVlaMin," 2023 SCOOP Main Event champion Felipe "lipe piv" Boianovsky, Thomas "WushuTM" Muehloecker, and bubble boy Benjamin "bencb789" Rolle navigated to the final table but left empty-handed.

Swedish legend Niklas "Lena900" Astedt was the first Titans player to cash. His fifth-place exit came with $15,203. "Team PokerBR" ($24,639) and Austria's "Jesper8" ($36,282) joined the ever-growing list of eliminated players, which left Tavares heads-up against "chrisgoataui" for the title and the $73,348 top prize.

While Tavares battled his Austrian opponent heads-up, he was also one-on-one in the $530 buy-in Titans WCOOP Boot Camp addition. Despite having to cope with the frantic pace of two heads-up matches, Tavares defeated "chrisgoataui" to become the latest stellar name to capture the PokerStars Titans title. The runner-up walked away with a $50,523 consolation prize.

As mentioned, Tavares competed in the $530 version of the WCOOP Boot Camp's Titans event. Twenty-three of the 196 entrants saw a return on their investment, which included Team PokerStars' Marle "MarlzTV" Spragg and Kenny "SpaceyFCB" Hallaert.

Again, the final table was packed with talent, arguably more than the $5,200 version Tavares took down. Such luminaries as Lucio "WizardOffAz" Lima Nikas "Lena900" Astedt, Sami "Lrslzk" Kelopuro, and Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson were present and correct, although each fell by the wayside before heads-up was reached.

Tavares found himself heads-up against Belarusian "baaaaddyyyy" for the title and another $19,837 in prize money. The Brazilian got the job done only five minutes after becoming the $5,200 Titans champion, completing a remarkable double and padding his bankroll with $93,185 in total. Not a bad day at the PokerStars office!

$100,000 and $400,000 Guaranteed Mystery Bounty Events Conclude on August 11

Two huge events completed their respective Day 1s on August 10 and will crown their worthy champions sometime on August 11. The $11 buy-in Mystery Mission event saw 12,895 players buy in and smash the $100,000 guarantee by $26,371. Only 277 of those starters remain.

In the $75 buy-in, $400,000 guaranteed version, 6,403 players turned out in force and created a $436,556 prize pool. Just 58 remain from those who started this event with high hopes. Although the biggest bounties have been claimed, there's still a top prize of $24,525 up for grabs. Both events resume at 6:05 p.m. BST on August 11.
