888poker Mystery Bounty Main Event

Ukrainian grinder "king2309" put on a dominant display in the latest instalment of the $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event online at 888poker. "king2309" was one of 965 entrants in 888poker's flagship tournament. They sat down at the eight-handed final table with the chip lead and occupied the top two spots throughout proceedings before emerging victoriously to bank $10,439.

On Day 1, the 965 entrants were reduced to eight. Mystery bounties came into play after the 18th level. They included six worth $1,000, a pair of $3,000 payouts, and a $10,000 jackpot bounty.

"Chipss182" and "APJennings" were the lucky players to open a mystery bounty envelope containing $3,000, but the luckiest player on the night was "Ekampitakis" of Argentina, who eliminated a foe that had a cool $10,000 on their head.

Often at this tournament's final table, there is a flurry of eliminations from the word go, but not this week. Almost 45 minutes passed without a bust-out, the drought ending when "Fylleborje" squeaked all-in for 14 big blinds with pocket fours following a raise and a call. The initial caller, "dududantas95," called the shove with pocket sevens, which held on a king-high board.

Pocket sevens were involved in the next elimination, although they were the losing hand. "Mukonga" min-raised from the cutoff with ace-queen of hearts before calling the 15 big blind three-bet shove from "Bambuk08" made from the small blind with a pair of sevens in the hole. An ace on the flop was not what "Bambuk08" wanted to see, and they busted after whiffing the turn and river.

Snowmen Melted

The final six became five after "NytNavn" came unstuck in a cruel hand. "dududantas95" min-raised in the cutoff with pocket fives and called the nine big blind jam from "NytNavn" in the small blind. Those fives were in bad shape against pocket eights, but a five on the flop melted the snowmen, and the player count was reduced again.

Romania's "PAPA_VINCENT" had been short-stacked throughout proceedings but was refusing to bow out. They managed to double through "dududantas95" to give themselves some breathing room, but then almost immediately found themselves on the rail. Chip leader "king2309" min-raised from the cutoff before instantly calling when "PAPA_VINCENT" moved all-in for 15 big blinds from the button with ace-seven of diamonds. "king2309" revealed pocket aces. Those aces held, "PAPA_VINCENT" cashed out in fifth, and "king2309" extended their lead by some distance.

The rich became richer when "king2309" sent "Mukonga" home in fourth. The action folded to "king2309" in the small blind, and he open-shoved with what turned out to be ten-six offsuit. "Mukonga," nursing a nine big blind stack in the big blind, snap-called with pocket jacks, and looked set for a timely double. However, the Poker Gods had other ideas and gifted "king2309" a straight by the river to dash the "Mukonga"'s hopes and dreams.

And Then There Were Two

Heads-up was reached just before the second scheduled break. "Ruminescu" initially completed the small blind with ace-three before moving all-in for 19 big blinds when "king2309" raised it up in the big blind with the dominating ace-nine. "King2309" called the jam, flopped a nine, and saw their stack grow to almost 101 big blinds, five times that of "dududantas95."

It took another 40 minutes for the tournament to conclude, thanks partly to "dududantas95" clawing their way back into contention and then forging a substantial lead. The turning point came when "king2309" was on the ropes but managed to get three streets of value, having flopped the top pair and their opponent backing into second pair on the river. That hand levelled the stacks, and the contest was all over soon after.

The final hand saw "dududantas95" min-raise on the button with ace-king, and "king2309" defend their big blind with eight-seven. An eight-high flop with two diamonds was greeted with a check from "king2309" then a check-raise after "dududantas95" stabbed at the pot. "dududantas95" called, and it was off to the turn, a three, which paired the board. "king2309" bet one-third pot and was called. The river was a nine, and "king2309" set "dududantas95" all-in for their last 21 big blinds. "dududantas95" called and was shown the bad news that their opponent held a pair of eights; the title belonged to "king2309."
