Zhen Outlasts Staples & Lappin to Claim PartyPoker Tour Glasgow Title
Table Of Contents
Several big names were in the mix at the PartyPoker Tour Glasgow stop over the weekend, with David Lappin, Dean Lyall, and ambassador Jaime Staples all reaching the £500 Main Event final table.
But the spotlight fell on Zhen Zhen, who battled her way past 256 entries before defeating Kyle Scott heads-up to capture the £22,500 top prize and become the tour’s first female Main Event champion.
Zhen Rallies from Behind to Defeat Scott Heads-Up
After Alan Chrzaszcz bowed out in ninth, poker streamer Jaime Staples ran queens into aces and was left nursing fewer than ten big blinds. The same hand also saw Kevin Frame hit the rail when his pocket nines failed to improve in the three-way all-in.
Staples followed soon after, with Killie Rab next to fall. His chips went to Zhen Zhen, who scored her first knockout of the final table when her ace-five paired on the flop to crack Rab’s tens.
Lyall, the most accomplished player at the table, then departed in fifth after losing a flip to John Woods, where the latter assumed the chip lead.
The final four traded double-ups before Scott eliminated Woods in a blind-versus-blind clash. Lappin then surged to seven million chips to take the lead, but Scott won back-to-back all-ins against the Irishman to scoop his stack and set up heads-up play.
Scott entered with a near 3:1 advantage, but Zhen battled back to seize control of the match. In the final hand, Scott moved his last ten big blinds in with queen-nine, only for Zhen to wake up with ace-six. The ace-high held, sealing her victory and a place in the history books as the tour’s first female Main Event champion.
