Sixteen became six on Day 4 of the World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Star Championship after a quick-fire day inside Bay 101 Casino in San Jose, California.

Kharlin Sued emerged as the chip leader and will hold the pole position when play resumes. The six-handed televised WPT Final Table is now set, with the finalists getting a month and a half off before returning to Las Vegas in December to crown a champion during the WPT World Championship.

Sued bagged the lead after a massive boat-over-boat confrontation with Yuefan Wang worth 6.1 million chips. The chips flew in on the QJ10AA board, where Wang revealed AJ for aces full of jacks, only to see Sued turn over AQ for the top boat. The huge pot vaulted Sued to the top of the counts while Wang was eliminated in eighth place. Sued closed out Day 4 with 11,030,000 chips, good for 184 big blinds.

Start-of-day chip leader Alfie Poetra (6,895,000 – 115 big blinds) ended play by knocking out Aobo Li in seventh, marking the third consecutive day the Indonesian player has finished among the top stacks.

Daniel Maor (4,875,000 – 81 big blinds) rounds out the top three, while Chance Kornuth (4,265,000 – 71 big blinds), Matthew Widdoes (3,380,000 – 56 big blinds), and Danny Wong (3,160,000 – 53 big blinds) complete the final table lineup.

Day 4 Action

Nicholas Palma

According to the WPT.com live reporting, sixteen players began the day, but it took less than two full levels for the final six to be determined.

Nicholas Palma’s quest to claim two-thirds of poker’s triple crown ended early when he ran into kings to become the first elimination of the day, guaranteeing the remaining 15 players $38,000. Moments later, last woman standing Victoria Livschitz rivered a pair to bust 2015 Bay 101 winner Taylor Paur in 15th.

Widdoes then found a three-outer to oust Ben Underwood’s hand before using Big Slick to see off Livschitz’s weaker ace. Kornuth straightened out Elvyn Bello in 12th place before Sued’s pocket queens sent Michael Berk to the rail.

Jeremy Menard bowed out in tenth, and then Justin Young’s pursuit of a second WPT title collapsed when Kornuth’s ace-queen had him dominated.

Sued’s cooler against Wang and Poetra’s knockout of Li sealed the lineup for the televised final table.

The final six players have locked up $101,000 from the $3,225,600 prize pool, but of course, all eyes remain on the WPT trophy and the $480,700 top prize, which includes entry into the season-ending $10,400 WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas.
