There’s been yet another super-sized Bad Beat Jackpot at Playground Poker Club in Canada, where a straight flush over straight flush triggered a monster CAD $758,785 payout at the Montreal venue.

Remarkably, it is the second time in just over three months that such a hand has produced a jackpot at the Quebec card room, which is currently hosting the WPT Global Winter Classic. Back in October, an almost identical straight flush over straight flush scenario led to a CAD $1.6 million payout, roughly $1.14 million USD.

The latest hand, which played out on January 22, sparked wild celebrations across the room, with champagne and ticker tape raining down on an excited crowd of players who'd scored a free payday.

Both Players Make Monsters

Playground is no stranger to massive Bad Beat Jackpots, having hosted the world-record CAD $2.6 million payout back in August 2023. On that occasion, quads fell to a straight flush in a $1/$2 NLHE cash game, but last Thursday’s hand ranks just as high in terms of sheer craziness.

To qualify for the bad beat jackpot at Playground, players must be able to make the hand using their two hole cards, which happily was the case in this instance, with the lion's share of CAD $758,785 (~USD $553,911) live for the lucky loser.

Two players, one named Tsz and the other Vineet, would flip 910 and 45 on a board of AK768 to give both players a remarkable straight flush, although Tsz's was superior.

In spite of the fact that Vineet ran into a brutal cooler, it's unlikely he'll mind too much as the loser of the hand takes the biggest share of the prize in Playground's rules, around CAD $303,514 or 40% of the total amount.

Meanwhile, Tsz walked away with CAD $151,757, representing 20% of the jackpot, while another 20% was shared among the other players at the table and the remaining 20% was distributed across all other players in the club at the time.

Playground has now reset its Bad Beat Jackpot counter, with the current total standing at just over CAD $153,000 at the time of writing.

And while you certainly wouldn't complain about hitting that, the poker room has pointed out that players may be more enticed by the current Omaha Bad Beat Jackpot, which stands at just over $763,000 in comparison.
